25 Worst Movies Of 2009

The Body
Wow, there were some bad movies, like really bad, in 2009 but since we are optimists we like to think the good outnumbered the bad. We already discussed the good movies, and now we will feature the bad and ugly of 2009. Sometimes bad movies are entertaining enough to keep our attention for a few hours but sometimes the movies are so bad we induce vomiting to make us feel better.

Couples Retreat (25) had the cast and the budget to be a funny flick and it came out in the fourth quarter of 2009 when the best movies already came out. This movie was bad, not funny, and it might have marked th...

Blockbusters, Comedies & Animated Films To Benefit From New Oscar Rule

6/25/2009 9:34am EDT
The Hangover
In a move that had everybody checking their calendars to make sure it wasn't still April 1, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just announced that this year there will be TEN Best Picture nominees instead of the five-film shortlist that's existed since 1944.

So what does this mean exactly? That is, apart from the additional five minutes of clips at the Oscar show and the inevitable surprise of a bleary-eyed Oscar Nominee presenter who realizes they aren't finished after reading the name of the fifth film off the TelePrompTer? Plenty.

The Animation Rule No Longer Applies...

Similar Story Smackdown: Which Hollywood Flicks Came Out On Top?

Saving Private Ryan
So, have you seen this year's comedy about an overweight, overzealous, loser-y mall cop who takes his job way too seriously and is hopelessly in love with a fellow shopping center employee? If you're not sure whether I'm referring to January's hit Paul Blart: Mall Cop or the newest Seth Rogen comedy Observe and Report (in theaters now), don't be too hard on yourself: Both flicks have eerily similar plotlines. This isn't the first time two films with the same subject matter have been released within a year of one another; Hollywood has a talent for redundancy (see: recycling and ripping off)...

Is Seth Rogen Funny?

4/10/2009 10:39am EDT
Seth Rogen
Ronnie Barnhardt is a daring, delusional mall security guard who attempts to find the mysterious flasher who has been exposing himself to shoppers in the mall. Once he solves the case of the anonymous flasher, Ronnie hopes to be recognized for his achievement and win the woman of his dreams, Brandi.

The plot from the movie described isn't from Paul Blart: Mall Cop starring Kevin James, it's from the new movie Observe and Report starring Seth Rogen. Unlike Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Observe and Report is a dark, and twisted comedy that appears to be, from most reviews, beyond bizarre. The mo...

Kevin James: The Box Office 'King of Queens'

1/22/2009 11:19am EST
Kevin James
(TJAGS is a weekly column) In the last week, over a five day span, the three following things have happened: A man whose father was born in Kenya was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States; a commercial airliner crashed -- two miles from my apartment -- into the Hudson River and everyone survived; and, perhaps most surprisingly, a Kevin James movie became a blockbuster number one hit at the box-office. If there was ever a time to fly to Vegas and take a futures bet on 'Hell freezing over' or 'pigs flying' or 'Mickey Rourke winning an Oscar,' well, may I suggest: "soon."

I ...

Must Avoid Movies of 2009

1/1/2008 11:00am EST
My Bloody Valentine 3-D
2009 is upon us, bringing with it all the hope that new year's usually bring. Usually, this hope is for health, happiness, and prosperity, and that is exactly how it should be. This year, however, I have an additional hope - or I should say, I had an additional hope - that Hollywood wouldn't soil our planet with films that make me wish my eyes had been burned out in some kind of electrical accident. Alas, ever the Cubs fan, I must wait for next year. Until then, I take solace in the fact that I may save you the pain of sitting through these movies.
