Original Movie Vs. The Remake: Which Was Better?

7/5/2015 3:35pm EDT
10 Remakes That Will Redefine Your Appreciation Of Cinema
A few days ago, we posted a list of great sequels in recognition of the typically franchise-heavy summer movie season. This year is also seeing its fair share of the ostensibly even less original piece of the Established Property Pie: the Remake. Most movies of this ilk have no reason for existing beyond turning an easy profit, but every once in a while, this imitation game proves its worth. So if the latest “Poltergeist” or “Point Break” has got you down, just remind yourself that these classic remakes exist. But how many of them match or even exceed the original?

Jamie Lee Curtis Has 'Compassion' For Lindsay Lohan

8/30/2010 11:38am EDT
Jamie Lee Curtis
Jamie Lee Curtis feels "compassion" and "empathy" for her Freaky Friday co-star Lindsay Lohan following her recent release from jail - insisting the young actress was "thrown into the public eye" too young.

Lohan, who shot to fame at the age of 11 with a role in The Parent Trap remake, has been mired in controversy in recent years and her troubles culminated in a two-week jail stint this summer stemming from a 2007 DUI arrest.

Curtis worked with the actress on her second movie, 2003's Freaky Friday, and admits she is sad to hear of Lohan's recent problems.

She tells OK! Magazine, "I j...

'It's Complicated' Just The Latest In String Of Successes By Nancy Meyers

4/26/2010 12:45pm EDT
Nancy Meyers Its complicated.jpg
Filmmaker Nancy Meyers has directed, written, and produced some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters. Not only has Meyers been able to be successful in a male-dominated industry, but she has simultaneously changed the face of movies by writing films which feature strong female roles.

Her first big-screen success alone challenged film conventions. Meyers co-wrote and co-produced the 1980 comedy Private Benjamin; she recently told the New York Times that “everybody turned that movie down. Everybody. More than once.” It was abnormal to have a film not only starring a strong woman, but also wi...

Young Hollywood: The Good, The Bad & The Survivors

5/11/2009 9:46am EDT
Young Hollywood
Imagine waking up tomorrow rich and famous with the world at your fingertips. Now imagine being a teenager waking up rich and famous with the world at your fingertips. As if teenagers aren't rebellious enough, pump up their bank accounts with mad cash, allow them access to any bar or club and have the paparazzi follow them around constantly. It completely makes the situation teeter on a thin line of normalcy and catastrophe.

For every child actor who turns to drugs/drinking and become disasters, there are a few who have grown up in the media and blossomed into decent human beings. Wh...

An Open Letter to Lindsay Lohan

3/19/2009 1:46pm EDT
Lindsay Lohan
Dear Lindsay,

Well? What's next? The world is waiting. Remember that little rehab stint and the comeback that typically comes after it?

Everyone is rooting for you. We loved you in The Parent Trap - those freckles! The accent! Twins! We loved Mean Girls and the adorable-turned-bitchy Cady that you played. Everyone liked the Lindsay with boobs and red hair, and we really couldn't get enough. We couldn't wait to see what grown-up movie you would do next...

Then came A Prairie Home Companion, Just My Luck, Bobby, Chapter 27, Georgia Rule, and I Know Who Killed Me. To break...

Disney Stars: Where Should The Guidance Come From

11/17/2008 12:11pm EST
Miley Cyrus
Tweens and teenagers are impressionable flibbertigibbets. They lack the experience, perspective, and good judgment that can really only come with age. Throw money and fame into the mix, and the results can be less than desirable. Young Disney stars find themselves in just such a situation.

These young people, mostly female, have access to anything they could possibly want: expensive clothes, millions of fans, instant friends, decreased parental supervision, other celebrities, and parties. We've seen, though, that this kind of power isn't always a good thing. Similar circumstances led ...

Ali Lohan's Career Plans Take Their Toll On Family In 'Living Lohan'

6/23/2008 4:12pm EDT
Ali Lohan
On Sunday's episode of "Living Lohan" Dina had 24 hours to get the family all packed up because Ali was heading out to Las Vegas to record a track for her new album. Dina had her hands full because both her mother and youngest son Cody didn't exactly want to take this trip to Sin City.

Cody's reason for not wanting to go to Las Vegas with the family? He didn't want to leave his friends and soccer behind. He'll only be gone for two weeks. Michael Jr. reminded Cody that when Lindsay was filming "The Parent Trap," he had to leave everything behind for seven months so Lindsay could do the...

Point/Counterpoint: Should Hollywood Stop Remaking Classic Films?

1/18/2008 1:45pm EST
Rob Zombie
Over the years many classic movies have been remade. Don't get me wrong, some of those remakes have been really good. But the majority of the movies have been really bad.

These days, special effects are being taken to a whole new level, but that's not always a good thing. One of the main reasons these films are classics is because CGI was in the distant future. People loved the original "Godzilla" because you can see the man in the Godzilla costume crushing a cardboard box, also known as Tokyo.

There are few movies that have scared me, and one of those films was the 1978 movie "Ha...

Can Lindsay Lohan Make A Comeback?

11/19/2007 2:18pm EST
Lindsay Lohan
Here's what Lindsay Lohan should do. She should leave whatever coffee shop, nightspot, or Melrose Avenue boutique she's currently in, walk down to the Writer's Guild strike, and find Tina Fey. Once there, Miss Lohan needs to get down on her knees. And she needs to beg.

Right now, the only thing that stands in the way of Lohan and newfound success is an absence of Mean Girl-quality roles. She needs something fresh. Something young. Something cheeky. And she needs someone like Tina Fey to write her a screenplay.

Unlike several of her tabloid-frequenting peers, Lohan didn't climb her...

Movie Review: 'I Know Who Killed Me' Might Have Been A Guilty Pleasure, Now It's Just Sad

7/27/2007 10:33pm EDT
I Know Who Killed Me
Until very recently, the prospect of ''I Know Who Killed Me'' might have seemed utterly tantalizing. Perpetual train wreck Lindsay Lohan plays a stripper, and famously suffered bruises all over her body when she got all Method-y and actually trained for the role on a pole. It might have been fun, if only in a late-night, laugh-out-loud kind of way.

Now, after yet another arrest and further evidence of a worsening substance abuse problem, it just seems sad - a sad waste of talent, a sad lack of judgment, a sad course for a promising career.

But the film itself, which wasn't screene...

Starpulse's ' Hot 100' Girl Of The Week: Lindsay Lohan

7/27/2007 12:28pm EDT
Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan is this week's 'Maxim Hot 100' girl! Head on over to Maxim's Lindsay Lohan page to check her out!

Lindsay's new movie I Know Who Killed Me hits theaters today, but that's not what all the recent Li-Lo talk has been about this week. Apparently the young star has fallen off the wagon again and gotten herself into more trouble.

Early Tuesday morning Lindsay was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and possession of cocaine. She had recently finished a rehab stint at the Promises rehab center, the same place Britney Spears spent her rehab time. And if it's any indica...
