Smarter Than The Average Movie Star Natalie Portman Turns 30

6/9/2011 10:00am EDT
Natalie Portman
“I'd rather be smart than a movie star,” Natalie Portman once said. ...Turns out she’s both.

The young actress has always been a fascinating contradiction. Youthful in appearance, yet always so mature in her choices, her acting and her lifestyle. A child star who was never childish, (even at just 12 years of age in Leon), she has a natural maturity far beyond any of her peers. Which is why she’s lasted where others have crashed and burned.

Discovered by an agent in a pizza parlour at the age of 11, Portman was being groomed for a modelling career before deciding she’d rather pursue acting...

Natalie Portman Enjoys Anonymity From 'Good-Girl' Image

1/18/2011 6:05pm EST
Natalie Portman has no problem with her public perception as a Hollywood "good girl", because her reputation has allowed her to enjoy the benefits of her successful career while remaining "pretty anonymous".

The actress made her movie debut in 1994's Leon and shot to superstardom after landing the role of Queen Amidala in 1999's Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

However, she remained largely out of the public eye throughout the early 2000s as she studied for a psychology degree at the prestigious Harvard University in Massachusetts.

She has since returned to the limelight with hig...

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

Terminator Salvation
The first three weeks of the summer movie season started out a bit slow, but from here the momentum really starts to build. There's a spike in the number of movies premiering with six coming out this week, two of which are sequels. One of those sequels is a movie I've been anticipating since I heard it was in development. Hint: it involves giant robots, and it's not "Transformers 2."

Opening in cinemas this week are "Terminator Salvation," "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," "Dance Flick," "Easy Virtue," "The Girlfriend Experience," and "The Boys: The Sherman Brothers...

Another Look At the Cast Of 'Star Trek'

5/9/2009 10:41am EDT
Star Trek
The reviews for Star Trek have been mostly positive, so it's okay to assume the sequel that Paramount gave the go ahead to a few weeks ago is going to happen. Here's a quick look at the "cast of unknowns" who actually have a lot of acting credits between them.

Chris Pine starred opposite Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries 2

and Lindsay pre-rehab trips Lohan in Just My Luck. He was nearly unrecognizable in Smokin' Aces, but his least hated project was probably the little seen Bottle Shock.

After a few the less said the better television show appearances, Zachary Quinto joined ...

Why I Don't Feel Guilty About Loving 'The Tudors'

1/20/2009 10:00am EST
The Tudors
Why on Earth do I love Showtime's The Tudors so much, anyway? On the surface, this show has all the earmarks of the guiltiest of guilty pleasures: over-the-top costumes, fiery political intrigue, loads of violence, and plenty of, um, bodice-ripping. And I can't get enough of it. Perhaps it's because the steamy historical soap is unique, in that it has the odd ability to entertain the hell out of me even while it takes ridiculous, impossible liberties with history, characterization, and plot. Usually I get all bent out of shape when a movie or TV show portrays an event or people in ways that...
