For the first time in its history, Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) will exceed more than $3 billion in worldwide ticket sales tomorrow, December 8. This milestone achievement, reached with three weeks still to go in 2006, marks just the fourth time in motion picture history that any studio has reached the $3 billion mark in a single year.

Flushed Away and Cars look set to dominate this year's Annie Awards for film and television animation, landing nine nominations each. Animation giants Disney-Pixar and DreamWorks will go head-to-head for the top animated feature award at the ceremony, widely seen as the pathway to the Oscars, as all previous recipients have gone on to triumph in the best animated feature category at the Academy Awards later that month.

Horror sequel The Grudge 2 topped the box office over the weekend with $22 million, knocking director Martin Scorsese's film The Departed into second place. "The Departed" took in $18 million, while Robin Williams' new film, Man Of The Year, opened in third place with $12.6 million.

Ashton Kutcher has scored a rare prize at the top of the box office - he features in the top two films. The actor voices a one-antlered mule deer in family cartoon comedy Open Season, which has debuted in first place ahead of his portrayal of a cocky coastguard in Kevin Costner's new action film The Guardian.
