The suave superspy first burst onto the big screen in 1962's Dr. No and went on to become one of the icons of modern cinema.

To celebrate the franchise's 50th birthday this year, officials at this month's French film festival will screen 007's debut cinema outing along with its follow-up From Russia with Love, George Lazenby's sole turn as the spy in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Sean Connery's swansong in 1971's Diamonds Are Forever, and current Bond star D...

Quatum of Solace
Ian Fleming based his James Bond character on composer Andrew Lloyd Webber's former father-in-law.

The theatre impresario's TV personality daughter Imogen has revealed the writer drew inspiration for his superspy from her grandfather.

She says, "He's based on my mother's father. He served under Ian Fleming in the war in naval intelligence, and my grandfather is one of the men James Bond is based upon. It's a very cool claim to fame."

Sean Connery Snubs 50th Anniversary James Bond Party

January 30th, 2011 6:28pm EST
Sean Connery
Bond bosses have been left disappointed after Sean Connery reportedly declined an invitation to take part in the 50th anniversary celebrations of the superspy series next year.

The Scottish veteran was the first ever actor to portray the suave British secret agent in 1962's Dr. No, and went on to play James Bond seven times.

The series is set to return to the big screen with Daniel Craig slipping on his tuxedo for his third outing as the spy next year to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the franchise.

Bosses at MGM - the studio behind the movies - are planning to mark the milestone ...

A Writer's Theory On 'Inception' (Part 2 of 2)

Leonardo DiCaprio and the World
Note: This is continued from my previous post and makes no sense if you have not read that post. Oh, and MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT!!! Do not continue if you have not seen Inception!

Now then, where was I? Oh, right, I was trying to convince you all that (a) I'm not a complete lunatic and (b) Inception is nothing but a dream.

My third point then, is that little conveniences abound throughout the film. The team for a blatantly illegal enterprise is located quite easily (all while time is compressed dream-style), and even Ariadne (Ellen Page) simply says "Yes" despite the fact that we have zero ...

Is This It For James Bond? Find Out In This Week's EW

August 5th, 2010 9:15pm EDT
Daniel Craig As James Bond
With MGM up for auction - and no buyer in sight - the world's greatest film franchise lies in peril. This week's cover story investigates what's next for James Bond, and whether Daniel Craig has sipped his last shaken martini.

Up until last spring, it looked as if James Bond would indeed return, but after decades of invincibility, it seems as if 007 has finally been defeated, at least for the foreseeable future. What's holding up production on the next movie is the sale of MGM, which went up for auction last November and still hasn't found a buyer. Then, in July, there was more reason t...

GetBack Bond Ratings: Who Is The Best 007 Ever?

November 3rd, 2008 10:48am EST
Quantum of Solace
With the release of Roger Moore's autobiography, My Word Is My Bond, and the upcoming Quantum Of Solace (the 22nd film in the Official James Bond franchise), we couldn't help but ponder: Who is the best 007 EVER? It goes without saying that he has to be an international man of mystery, a bad-ass crime solver, a babe magnet. Slick, suave, and seductive. But we have our own set of criteria for the best Bond. He must also:

1. Be a snazzy dresser.

2. Have a hot Bond girl.

3. Have a bitchin' ride.

4. Have a killer theme song.

5. Have a relaxing off-hours diversion.

Pierce Brosnan Has A Dirty Mouth

November 10th, 2005 9:25am EST
Pierce Brosnan
Pierce Brosnan has been spitting fury over being dumped as James Bond. The Hollywood star, who has been replaced as 007 by younger actor Daniel Craig, has told Bond bosses, "f**" you", over their decision to end his contract.

When asked how it felt to have won a role in new movie 'The Matador' after being ditched as the world-famous spy, he told Playboy magazine:

"It's bloody frustrating that the [bleepers] pulled the rug when they did. When the [bleepers] try and hem you in with Bond, it's great to come back with 'The Matador'. It's great to say, '[Bleep] you, [bleephole]. [Bleep...
