In what can best be described as a sweeter, less sensationalistic version of Larry Clark's controversial 1995 film Kids, Cesc_Gay's Krampack succeeds in its open-hearted approach to the sexual mores of teenagers, without ever resorting to the pandering or insensitivity that mars so many films made about such subjects. The film doesn't break any new ground as a study of teen sexuality or homosexuality amongst the young, but Krampack also never makes the mistake of judging its characters or what they do. Every scene has the ring of truth essential for a feature of this nature, and the young actors do a credible job at bringing these truths to the surface. The filmmaking is unsurprising but effective, especially in detailing the frank nature of the relationships with assurance and a refusal to let things get too exploitative. Krampack has performed successfully on the festival circuit, especially at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival, where it picked up a Special Prize during Critics Week. Jason Clark, Rovi
