5 Great TV To Cinema Adaptations

August 25th, 2012 1:01pm EDT
Arrested Development
There’s not a week that goes by where I don’t do a Google search to scour the internet for the latest news on a possible cinematic adaptation of the cult television show “Arrested Development.” The show, which was cancelled back in 2006, never was able to attract a large mainstream audience. Its brand of offbeat humor was not for everyone, but those who appreciated it have formed an intensely devoted fan base. As a result, if anything, the show has attracted more notoriety since its cancellation, and gained an even bigger following when it came to DVD. Creator Mitchell Hurwitz has for y...

November 29th, 2010 12:07am EST
Leslie Nielsen
Leslie Nielsen - one of the most prolific actors in slapstick comedy - died on Sunday afternoon in a big building with patients, but that's not important right now, near his home in Florida.

John S. Kelly, the star's agent, released a statement saying he died from complications from pneumonia at 5:34 p.m. with his wife and friends at hand.

"We are saddened by the passing of beloved actor Leslie Nielsen, probably best remembered as Lt. Frank Drebin in 'The Naked Gun' series of pictures, but who enjoyed a more than 60-year career in motion pictures and television," he said.

Top 10 Acting Performances By Athletes

August 27th, 2009 10:35am EDT
Cam Neely as Seabass
A director getting the optimum performance out of an actor is not unlike a coach getting a great performance out of an athlete. One has to use the right guy in the right scene with expert timing. These are situations where one could film countless scenes of all different kinds, and getting laughs so big with these athletes would seem impossible - they're almost perfect. Remember, the fellas on this list appear here because they got the biggest laughs, not because they were the best actors or in the best movies. While Something About Mary is a funnier and better movie than many on this l...

Is It OK To Dislike Caddyshack?

January 5th, 2009 12:00pm EST
Caddyshack
Caddyshack isn't that good, and it's not very funny. If you're 9 out of 10 red blooded American men, that last sentence just infuriated you like I just made slanderous remarks about your grandmother. I've never met your grandmother, but I have seen Caddyshack - and it kind of sucks. My editors were quick to advise me that although they were giving me the go-ahead on this piece, they would have to include a bigger than usual disclaimer saying that the opinions expressed are solely that of Matthew J. Swanson. I'll tell you that right now, too: it is just my opinion, but it happens to be t...

Dr. Ken Jeong
Honesty's the best policy. That goes for anyone, whether you're a doctor, comedian, actor, or, in the case of Dr. Ken Jeong , all three. Surprisingly, all three careers have much in common: you've got to be quick on your feet, they require long, grueling hours, and sometimes the best approach is the untraditional one. Dr. Ken has committed to honesty and it's taken him a long way, from the shy teen growing up in North Carolina, to working with Judd Apatow and prancing around in a silver jumpsuit, providing backup vocals in viral videos.

When were you first exposed to comedy?

Five Television Remakes We'd Like To See, But Probably Won't

January 14th, 2008 4:27pm EST
The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.
Ahh, the remake. The feelings that are evoked when you hear that your favorite program from yesteryear is being re-thought, re-vamped and re-launched for the new generation are hard to describe. Sure, remakes are almost inevitably likely to fail, but so what? That doesn't make their possibility any less tantalizing.

TV remakes don't happen often, although when they do they tend to come in waves. The crest of the latest remake wave seems to be ominously hovering right over our heads as recent launches of "Bionic Woman," "American Gladiators" and the soon-to-be debuting "Knight Ride...
