Summary:A political liability in his native Germany, playwright Bertolt Brecht lived as an exile in the United States for much of the 1940s. It was a strange marriage. Brecht, who was known for such challenging dramas as 'Mother Courage and Her Children,' began churning out scripts for Hollywood's dream factory. The irony continued when Brecht, who came to America to escape persecution by the Nazis, found himself the subject of one of the country's postwar Communist witch hunts.
