READ MORESarah's Cinema Musings: This Summer's Hits & Misses
Ok, we are almost through the summer season of film, and I, for one, feel like I am trying to resuscitate an almost dead corpse. Sure, there were hits, good films, and technical blockbuster hits, but were they really great or just great within their summer context?
The Blockbusters
Just because a movie generates revenue at the box office does not necessarily translate into a successful well-loved film. X-Men Origins: Wolverine for instance, didn't exactly start the season off with a bang. Star Trek was loved by both fans and non-fans; something that was a bit of a worry before th...

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?
I saw "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" last week, and I really enjoyed it. Apparently among critics I was in the minority on that one. The film certainly wasn't perfect, but I didn't think it was nearly as bad as people were saying.
The surprising thing for me though, was how divided people's opinions were about it. For the most part I found that people who viewed the film fell into two camps: those that loved it and those that hated it. I didn't really encounter a many people who fell in between.
July starts out a bit slow this week with "Public Enemies," "Ice Age: Dawn of...

Nia Vardalos Slams 'Fat-ist' Hollywood
Actress Nia Vardalos has fired off at Hollywood executives who green light film romances featuring "fat" Russell Crowe and Seth Rogen and then poke fun at her for finding love with hunks on the big screen.
The My Big Fat Greek Wedding star is tired of Tinseltown's double standards when it comes to pairing up stars for movie love stories - because older women can't get away with dating hunks, while ageing actors regularly romance hotties. And she's had enough of the questions about her own onscreen match-ups with the likes of John Corbett and My Life in Ruins co-star Alexis Georgoulis.

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?
I'm ashamed to say I still haven't gotten a chance to see "Terminator Salvation," but it's my top priority to see it this week. I also need to get out and see "Drag Me to Hell," because I continue to hear nothing but good things about it.
This week is a big week for comedies, with four premiering. We have "Land of the Lost," "Away We Go," "The Hangover," and "My Life in Ruins." I'm very excited because I will be seeing an advanced screening of "The Hangover." I have high hopes that it will be very funny, but I'll let you know what I think after I see it.

Nia Vardalos Health Scare Forces Her To Lose Weight
A bout of ill health was the wake-up call My Big Fat Greek Wedding star Nia Vardalos' needed after she piled on the pounds following a bout of depression.
The actress was distraught after doctors told her that she and her husband would be unlikely to be able to conceive, and she retreated from the spotlight. Her weight crept up and Vardalos began to suffer from dizzy spells.
She tells People.com, "My blood sugar went out of control (and) diabetes runs in my family so I went to see my doctor. He was like, 'Buck up', and it was sort of the wake-up call that I needed to hear."

Starpulse's Explosive Summer Movie Preview
Since the dawn of the American cinematic blockbuster in the late 1970s and early 1980s, moviegoers have eagerly waited for May - the unofficial beginning of summertime. This summer is no different. Films, and most popular media, are social mirrors, and this summer season supports that. The large box office contenders all deal with very similar themes: escapism and the support of the lone, outlaw hero figure (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Up, Transformers 2, Public Enemies, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Inglourious Basterds, et...
