My Big Fat Greek Wedding News

Check Out 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' 10th Anniversary Special Edition

My Big Fat Greek Wedding
One woman's rocky road to the altar gets played for laughs in the comedy "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," adapted from the one-woman off-Broadway show written by and starring Nia Vardalos.

Toula (Vardalos) is a Greek-American woman who is in her early thirties and single, with no immediate prospects of changing that status any time soon. This bothers Toula a bit, but not half as much as it distresses her mother (Lainie Kazan) and father (Michael Constantine), who want to send her to Greece in hopes of finding a husband in the old country.

Toula isn't interested in leaving the country to find...

"Sex And The City" star John Corbett saves money while filming in Los Angeles by sleeping in an office.

The thrifty actor lives two hours drive from Los Angeles, so when he's shooting hit TV series The United States of Tara with Toni Collette five days a week, he chooses to save cash on gas and accommodation by sleeping on the lot.

The "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" star says, "I'm not gonna drive home every night and I don't wanna spend more dough (money) on an apartment, because I already have a mortgage.

"So I said to the guys when they gave us a little dressing room, I said, 'I notice th...

Nia Vardalos Keeps Adopted Daughter Out Of Spotlight

March 2nd, 2010 12:49pm EST
Nia Vardalos
Nia Vardalos refuses to pose with her adopted daughter for a magazine spread - because she's desperate for the child to have a "normal life." The My Big Fat Greek Wedding star and her husband Ian Gomez took in a toddler in 2008 and were so moved by the experience they became advocates for National Adoption Month.

However, Vardalos has vowed never to invite cameras into their home - despite the awareness she could raise for the cause.

She tells Britain's OK! magazine, "We adopted a little girl and we've gone to great lengths not to release a photograph of her or her name. I certainly hav...

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

Public Enemies
I saw "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" last week, and I really enjoyed it. Apparently among critics I was in the minority on that one. The film certainly wasn't perfect, but I didn't think it was nearly as bad as people were saying.

The surprising thing for me though, was how divided people's opinions were about it. For the most part I found that people who viewed the film fell into two camps: those that loved it and those that hated it. I didn't really encounter a many people who fell in between.

July starts out a bit slow this week with "Public Enemies," "Ice Age: Dawn of...

My Best Friend
This weekend Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds light up the screen with a brand new romantic comedy titled The Proposal. They are an unlikely duo who must pretend to get married to get Bullock's character a green card, but as anyone can expect, they start to fancy one another. It got Starpulse thinking about other movies centered around weddings that have captured the interest of movie goers before.

Here's a look at some excellent movies focused on weddings. Feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments!

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

Land of the Lost
I'm ashamed to say I still haven't gotten a chance to see "Terminator Salvation," but it's my top priority to see it this week. I also need to get out and see "Drag Me to Hell," because I continue to hear nothing but good things about it.

This week is a big week for comedies, with four premiering. We have "Land of the Lost," "Away We Go," "The Hangover," and "My Life in Ruins." I'm very excited because I will be seeing an advanced screening of "The Hangover." I have high hopes that it will be very funny, but I'll let you know what I think after I see it.

A Pop Culture Focus Group

May 12th, 2009 9:30am EDT
Twilight
On a seemingly normal sunny Sunday morning, a few lucky "My Life, Made Possible By Pop Culture" readers gathered at a local Los Angeles theater for something they had only previously seen advertised as a "poor man's Chelsea Lately roundtable." The pop culture fans weighed in on everything from the leak of Eminem's new album to the new VH1 shows. They laughed; they ate cupcakes; and they found they agreed…at least on most topics.

Late last week, NBC announced their new fall line-up, which was ripe with an almost surprisingly equal amount of comedy, reality, and drama and included quite ...

Big Screen To Little Screen: Some Series Shine Will Others Fail

October 22nd, 2007 12:56pm EDT
Buffy
Often we don’t realize that our favorite TV shows began as vehicles on the big screen. Many of television’s best programs started that way. Then again, so did some of the worst.

In 1974, Ellen Burstyn starred in the Oscar awarded Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. The movie was such a success that it was turned into “Alice,” complete with Vic Tayback as Mel. Unfortunately, it was Polly Holiday who made the sitcom a success. By the time she left the show and was replaced in 1980 by the original Flo, Diane Ladd, the damage had already been done. The series soon met its demise.

In 1992...

Warner Bros. Allegedly Flips Off Female Flicks & Says Women Won't Work; Many Are Biting Back

The Invasion
Recently, Warner Bros. president Jeff Robinov was reported by internet blogger Nike Finke as saying, "We are no longer doing movies with women in the lead." Robinov allegedly doesn't even want to read a script where two X chromosomes have top billing. It is a decree that comes in the wake of Nicole Kidman's "The Invasion" and Jodi Foster's "The Brave One," both of which severely under performed at the box office.

Robinov, after many days, denied this report personally to Finke. Still, whether he said it or not, it raises interesting questions about the position of women in today's ent...
