Director Len Wiseman is preparing to bring The Mummy movies back to life in a scary new reboot.

Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser starred in the original 1999 movie and its 2001 sequel, although the British actress dropped out of the third installment and was replaced by Maria Bello.

Underworld moviemaker Wiseman - who recently remade Total Recall - has now revealed he is preparing to reboot The Mummy series and he is planning to make the new film much darker and scarier than its predecessors.

British actress Rachel Weisz has split from Darren Aronofsky after eight years together.

The Mummy star began dating The Wrestler director in 2002 and the pair became engaged in 2005. The couple, who share a four-year-old son, Henry, separated "some months" ago, according to the stars' representative.

A spokesperson tells TMZ.com, "Rachel Weisz and Darren Aronofsky have been separated for some months. They remain close friends and are committed to raising their son together in NYC (New York City)."

They are reportedly seeking joint custody of their son.

Oscar winner Rachel Weisz has turned down a role in The Mummy 3, leaving her co-star Brendan Fraser without an on-screen wife. Weisz and Fraser played love interests Evelyn Carnahan O'Connell and Rick O'Connell in Stephen Sommers' Egyptian action movies The Mummy and The Mummy Returns.

While Fraser has signed on to star in a second sequel, Weisz is unable to commit due to a scheduling conflict. The Fast And The Furious director Rob Cohen is set to take over from Sommers for the third movie, which is scheduled for release next year.
