Director/co-writer Wes Anderson teamed up with screenwriter Roman Coppola for "Moonrise Kingdom," a period comedy-drama set in the 1960s, in which a pair of young lovers (Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) head for the hills and throw their small town into a frenzy.
Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, the film follows two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore – and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in eve...

You Read That Right: 'Moonrise Kingdom' Sets Box Office Record
Moonrise Kingdom now has something common with The Avengers - they both set box office records. Wes Anderson's latest film has broken Dreamgirls' record of making the most money per theater.
The comedy-drama averaged over $130,000 for each of the four theaters it was in, making $669,000 total over its first four days. In 2006, Dreamgirls set the mark at $126,000 a theater.
Focus CEO James Schamus said, "Moonrise is a story of love's improbable triumph, and for Wes Anderson and his team a labor of love from start to finish. How wonderful it is to congratulate him, on behalf of everyone at ...

'Moonrise Kingdom' Movie Review: Clever Or Just Cliché?
When a 12-year-old Khaki Scout escapes a camping trip to marry a depressive blue-eyeshadowed girl and her cat, getting struck by lightning is the least of his worries. This quirky, emotionally subtle little indie is about the pure, raw feelings of love most of us learn to squash once we hit adulthood. Wes Anderson succeeds in making us laugh as we tap into our kinder, gentler super powers...
Set in 1965, many of the scenes in Moonrise Kingdom are shot in square frames, with head-on angles. This reflects the seemingly perfect New England community in which the story takes place. Compare the...

Bill Murray Gives An Interesting Tour Of The 'Moonrise Kingdom' Set
Wes Anderson's latest eccentric opus Moonrise Kingdom has just opened to rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival and will hit U.S. this weekend, and, despite a cast roster including Bruce Willis, Edward Norton and Frances McDormand, there's one thesp who's guaranteed to bring the funny: Bill Murray.
Anderson's muse since the heady days of "Rushmore," Murray is such deadpan force of nature that you could probably follow him around with a camera while he's drinking and strike comedy gold, which is exactly what happens in a new "Moonrise" promo video.

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'Men in Black III,' 'Moonrise Kingdom' & More
I didn’t end up watching “Battleship” last week, because I wasn’t in the mood to knowingly subject myself to a bad movie that night. Friends who caught it, told me that it’s as terrible as they thought it would be, giving it a D grade. Critic Matt Patches hilariously called it “as stiff and lifeless as the plastic pieces used to play (the board game).” After hearing things like that I’m glad I didn’t bother with “Battleship.”
This week includes the release of the highly anticipated blockbuster “Men in Black III,” but I’m more interested in Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” since it feature...

Diane Kruger & British Director Address Allegations Of Sexism At The Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Film Festival in the south of France kicked off on Wednesday. During the 12-day gala, a total of 22 movies will be screened for the coveted Palme d'Or prize. Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom," Ken Loach's "The Angels' Share" and David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" are some of the films in contention.
Critics recently pointed out the lack of female filmmakers in competition for the prestigious prize. A group of French filmmakers wrote an open letter to the media accusing Cannes organizers of failing to give proper recognition to projects made by female directors.

A Very Plaid Bill Murray Talks 'Moonrise Kingdom' At Cannes
Bruce Willis and Bill Murray attended the photocall for "Moonrise Kingdom" at the Cannes International Film Festival at the Palais des Festivals in France today.
The "Caddyshack" star wore some interesting duds - plaid pants, a plaid jacket and a plaid button-down shirt. Naturally, none of the plaids matched.
Wes Anderson directed and co-wrote "Moonrise Kingdom," a period comedy-drama set in the 1960s. A pair of young lovers (Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) from an island off the New England coast head for the hills and throw their small town into a frenzy.
