December 31st, 2011 11:30am EST
Quatum of Solace
Ian Fleming based his James Bond character on composer Andrew Lloyd Webber's former father-in-law.

The theatre impresario's TV personality daughter Imogen has revealed the writer drew inspiration for his superspy from her grandfather.

She says, "He's based on my mother's father. He served under Ian Fleming in the war in naval intelligence, and my grandfather is one of the men James Bond is based upon. It's a very cool claim to fame."

James Bond Villain/Giant Richard Kiel Can No Longer Walk

October 13th, 2011 9:20am EDT
Richard Kiel
Bond baddie Richard Kiel has been reduced to life in a wheelchair because his balance has been destroyed.

The 7 foot 2 inches movie giant, who played Jaws opposite Roger Moore in "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "Moonraker," admits his size and a 1992 car accident have wrecked his ability to walk.

Kiel, 72, tells the Globe, "Little by little I started losing my auto balance. We balance with our toes without thinking and a toddler learns that through trial and error. I became like a 320-pound toddler."

August 5th, 2010 9:15pm EDT
Daniel Craig As James Bond
With MGM up for auction - and no buyer in sight - the world's greatest film franchise lies in peril. This week's cover story investigates what's next for James Bond, and whether Daniel Craig has sipped his last shaken martini.

Up until last spring, it looked as if James Bond would indeed return, but after decades of invincibility, it seems as if 007 has finally been defeated, at least for the foreseeable future. What's holding up production on the next movie is the sale of MGM, which went up for auction last November and still hasn't found a buyer. Then, in July, there was more reason t...

Quantum of Solace
This Friday, Sir Ian Fleming's James Bond is back in theaters. Daniel Craig has brought a brute anger to the role that has not quite been seen before. Let's take a look at all the actors who have played 007 -- rouge film, or not -- and what their post Bond careers looked like.

Shirley Bassey 'Too Lazy' For Opera

June 24th, 2007 10:32am EDT
Shirley Bassey
Veteran singer Shirley Bassey nearly became an opera singer - but admits she was too lazy to put in the practice. The Goldfinger hitmaker - who has performed the title songs for three James Bond movies - was put off by the gruelling training regime required of opera singers and chose to stick with her trademark big band music instead.

She says, "My vocal coach said if I'd had the right training, I could have been an opera singer. I would have been a contralto, not a soprano. I'd have been a good candidate but I'm basically very lazy, and opera singers have to train every day."

Hollywood actor Roger Moore has launched a campaign to ban French delicacy foie gras in the U.K, insisting it is "a disease" not a meal. He says, "In foie gras farms across Europe and the U.S., metal pipes are used to cram as much as four pounds of grain and fat down the throats of birds and geese, thereby causing their livers to become painfully dise...
