Russell Crowe Linked To 'Star Trek'

Antipodean actor Russell Crowe is the latest famous face to be linked to the upcoming Star Trek movie. In recent weeks, internet reports have suggested Tom Cruise, British pop star Robbie Williams and now Crowe will appear in the sci-fi film.

Filmmaker J.J. Abrams - who directed Cruise in Mission: Impossible III last year - is directing the 11th Star Trek movie and is reportedly in talks with Crowe.

An insider tells British newspaper Daily Express, "Russell is definitely considering J.J.'s offer. Russell was always a big Star Trek fan as a kid, which is a big bonus."

Matt Damon's dreams of playing Captain James T. Kirk in moviemaker J.J. Abrams' new film have been dashed because the director thinks he's too old. Damon admits he called the Mission: Impossible 3 director when he heard he'd be taking charge of "Star Trek XI" and begged to play Kirk.

He says, "I actually called J.J. because I kept hearing these rumors but he was like, 'No, you're way too old.'"

Pop star Robbie Williams is among the favorites to play Kirk after Abrams name checked the singer in a recent interview.

A new movie trailer which fails to reveal the film's title is leaving cinemagoers desperate for more information. The strange promo, which is being shown across the country before screenings of number one film Transformers, features a bunch of New Yorkers enjoying a dinner party before the lights go out and fireballs drop all over the city.

The trailer contains no title, but reveals a release date of January 18, 2008 and that the movie is produced by Lost co-creator and Mission: Impossible III director J.J. Abrams.

Movie giant Paramount has agreed to pay $75,000 to the U.S. Attorney's office after a marketing stunt for Mission: Impossible III prompted a series of bomb scares. Plastic devices were fitted to 4,500 newspaper vending machines in Los Angeles that played the Mission: Impossible theme when opened.

But the red boxes were mistaken for bombs, causing a hospital to be evacuated. Another was blown up by an arson squad in Santa Clarita, California.

Paramount, the Los Angeles Times and Allied Advertising agreed to make the payment without admitting fault.

Lost co-creator and Mission Impossible: III director J.J. Abrams is in talks to acquire the rights to horror writer Stephen King's novel 'The Dark Tower.'

King has been keen to keep the project away from Hollywood hands but the writer is reportedly a huge fan of Abrams' desert island drama - and is thrilled about working with the director.

According to US magazine Entertainment Weekly, Abrams will team up with his Lost co-creator Damon Lindelhof on the project. Lindelhof is slated to pen the screenplay.

Tom Cruise and executives from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. are resurrecting United Artists, the movie studio founded more than 80 years ago by screen legends including Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford.
