'Wanted' With Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy: An Entertaining Blockbuster
(Hollywoodchicago) – With curving, clinking and kissing bullets, “Wanted” indeed does Chicago proud. And Angelina Jolie sells it. And Morgan Freeman is ominous. And in his body of work, James McAvoy – the star of this orgasmic summer blockbuster – becomes a man.
Many Chicagoans have been keenly aware of the film’s local filming throughout downtown Chicago and Broadview, Ill.
After also focusing its filming lens throughout the Czech Republic and Hungary, Chicago’s prominence reigns surprisingly dominant and central to the film’s assassin-based plot of one “apathetic nobody...

'Speed Racer' Condemns Franchise Dignity, But Delivers Sensorial Explosion
(HollywoodChicago) – While Hollywood slapped “PG” on the hotly anticipated “Speed Racer” to line its pocketbooks with the widest hodgepodge of people (ahem: kids) everywhere, those same kids will leave the theater with that lollipop nearly sucked to the stick but then yanked away with confusion.
Rather than the “go!” marketing hype, this is a stop-and-go proposition. Chicago brothers Larry Wachowski and Andy Wachowski are ultimately wrangling with a clear identity crisis of who this film is meant for.

Movies With Heart: The 100 Best 'Romdramedies' Of The Past 20 Years
There's the quintessential romantic comedy, and then there's the romdramedy. Similar to a dramedy (in which there is an equal balance of humor and serious content), a romdramedy combines comedy and drama with that mushy thing we call romance.
This is not a list of the best films over the past 20 years. Rather it is a list that gives preferences to those films that best combine all three elements - romance, comedy and drama.
Films like Magnolia and The Matrix were barred from competition, while films like Down with Love were considered (however, that one didn't make the cut)....

Movie Sequels: A List Of The Best & Worst
It seems every year we are inundated with dozens of sequels to films we love and those we've already forgotten about. But what are the best? What are the worst? What shouldn't have been made and what beat the original? Answers to those questions are below, but before a list of the best and worst sequels is determined a few ground rules must be established.
1. The Sequel Cannot Be Planned. There are plenty of movies where the sequel is somewhat planned (I highly doubt anybody wasn't thinking sequel during Spider-Man) but some movies are part of a planned series from day one. The mo...

Joe Pantoliano Discusses His Recent Film 'The Amateurs'
Everyone knows that sex sells in America, with entire careers in mainstream entertainment being built around sex tapes, Playboy spreads, and cleavage. So when it comes to satire, there's no better a medium than pornography, a topic that intrigues as much as it polarizes. In The Amateurs, a group of small town friends begin a journey to make a stag-film, and Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix, The Sopranos, Memento) is Some Idiot, the autistic auteur who takes on the project. Starpulse spoke with Joey Pants about The Amateurs and the various issues it explores, including stereotypes, relationships, ...

'Project Runway' Episode Recap: 'Fashion Giant'
"You won't be needing your models for the next challenge," Heidi Klum told the 13 remaining designers of Project Runway's new season. This week's challenge was a first for the show. The designers didn't take on Sarah Jessica Parker, dog-toting celebutantes or a pile of trash, instead they had to tackle menswear. This was unchartered territory for "Project Runway." They were expected to design a look for Tiki Barber, a running back for the New York Giants and correspondent for "The Today Show."

Film maker Ridley Scott has proclaimed the science fiction genre dead. The British Blade Runner director claims the likes of Independence Day, The War Of The Worlds and The Matrix movies are pale in comparison to his 1982 epic and the "best" sci-fi ever, 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Speaking at a 25th anniversary screening of Blade Runner at the Venice Film Festival, Scott says, "There's nothing original. We've seen it all before. Been there. Done it. There is an over-reliance on special effects as well as weak story lines."
