Woody Allen, Larry David, Evan Rachel Wood & Others Discuss 'Whatever Works'

June 16th, 2009 10:00am EDT
Whatever Works
Woody Allen, Larry David, Patricia Clarkson and Evan Rachel Wood sat down to discuss their new film, "Whatever Works," in theaters June 19. I asked Woody if any changes were made to the script -- a script he wrote in the 1970's -- with the casting of Larry David and asked Larry if he ever felt too much "Larry David" was ever coming out in his performance. Also discussed is their love -- or in Larry David's case, disdain, -- for New York and the slim possibilities that a Woody Allen film will ever be adapted for Broadway.

Mike: When Larry David was cast, did you re-write anything to take ...

The Most Underrated & Overrated Woody Allen Films

August 29th, 2008 11:58am EDT
Woody Allen
This month, Woody Allen returned with his best film in years. The mesmerizing love triangle that is "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" takes Allen back to his world of thematic comedies of love that he first cultivated in the mid-70s. It has all the classic Allen touches like his stylized adult dialogue and self-examining humor.

It's a pleasure to see the Woodman operating again at full form after a decade filled with "Scoop", "Hollywood Ending" and films of that nature. This return to brilliance can't help but make a fan re-explore Allen's films of year's past.

When doing so, you're ce...

Vicky Cristina Barcelona
(HollywoodChicago.com) – While legendary writer and director Woody Allen can’t always be equated with sheer genius these days and is more accurately described as a hit-or-miss proposition, the sorely undermarketed and film-festival touring “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” serves as unquestionable retribution for his recently questionable work.

The film, which stars Hollywood sensations Javier Bardem, Scarlett Johansson and Penélope Cruz, all throughout makes you feel like Allen’s script has something brilliant up its artistic sleeve. While at times you’ll easily predict when sex is on deck, ...
