On July 4 most people are eating hamburgers and watching fireworks, but if you have a couple of hours to kill, pop in a new DVD. This week, The Libertine and The Matador hit stores. "The Libertine" tells the story of John Wilmot (Johnny Depp), the second Earl of Rochester and a 17th century poet. In "The Matador," a chance meeting between two middle-aged men (Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear) leads one into a life of crime.

Pierce Brosnan feared he would be kidnapped while he filmed Matador in Mexico City. The heartthrob actor was so terrified he'd be targeted in the city - where abduction is rife - he used armoured cars while he was shooting the new movie. He even changed his vehicles as a precaution.

Brosnan is quoted in Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: "There was a real concern. I had to swap cars three times because we had these unexplained blow-outs. What happens is they puncture the tyres right near the valve and of course you have to pull over and that's when these kidnappers can pounce."

Pierce Brosnan has been spitting fury over being dumped as James Bond. The Hollywood star, who has been replaced as 007 by younger actor Daniel Craig, has told Bond bosses, "f**" you", over their decision to end his contract.

When asked how it felt to have won a role in new movie 'The Matador' after being ditched as the world-famous spy, he told Playboy magazine:
