Disney Continuing Live-Action Trend With 'Beauty And The Beast' Remake

June 5th, 2014 4:00pm EDT
Beauty and the Beast
Disney is still all about animation, but they plan on continuing to cash in on live-action remakes – and Beauty and the Beast is next.

Following the $170 worldwide box office gross earned by Maleficent, Disney would be foolish not to continue its trend of live-action features. Oz the Great and Powerful, Alice in Wonderland, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe were all successful for Disney Pictures.

Variety reports Bill Condon is set to direct the film. Condon's directing credits include Dreamgirls, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and 2, and The Fift...

12 Top Animated Disney Villains
Just in time for the release of Maleficent, Disney's live-action retelling of the 1959 animated feature Sleeping Beauty, here are the top 10 bad guys (and gals) from the hand-drawn movies of your childhood.

#12 Lady Tremaine, AKA the Wicked Stepmother - Cinderella (1950)

As far as Disney villains go, Lady Tremaine is a regular Mommie Dearest, but aside from some pretty substantial emotional scars, Cinderella gets off a lot easier than most of her fellow animated protagonists.

#11 Dr. Facilier, AKA "The Shadow Man" - The Princess and the Frog (2009)

So his voodoo charms wreak a bit...

Angelina Jolie Directed Her Daughter Vivienne On Set Of 'Malefic
By now fans know Angelina Jolie is a director as well as an actor, with her debut film In the Land of Blood and Honey, and the upcoming Unbroken. She is in front of the camera again in this weekend’s Disney film Maleficent, but she still played a directorial role in one scene. Her daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, played young princess Aurora in a scene, but needed to be coaxed to perform.

“The first day was the day she had to catch the butterfly and she just really didn’t feel like doing it,” Jolie recalled. “So I actually was holding the pole with the ball on the end and bouncing up and do...

The 10 Best And 10 Worst Angelina Jolie Movies
Angelina Jolie hasn't graced the big screen in four years, her last appearance occurring in the 2010 film The Tourist. Now she's starring in the Disney film Maleficent as the titular sorceress who dooms Sleeping Beauty. Despite her status as an A-list celebrity, Jolie's career has been anything but stable – here are Angelina Jolie's 10 Best and 10 Worst films.

The Best:

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

While infamous for what happened off-screen (it's assumed Brad Pitt and Jolie sparked a romance that ultimately had him divorce Jennifer Aniston), Mr. and Mrs. Smith is nevertheless an enjoyable actio...

Box Office Predictions: 'Godzilla' Should Stomp Its Way To No.1

Box Office Predictions: 'Godzilla' Should Stomp Its Way To No.1
1) Godzilla- 80M Weekend, 80M Total

Expect big things this weekend from a big monster of a movie. A lot of people have compared the ad campaign to World War Z, making it an apocalypse adventure on a global scale. What’s equally important here is that they’ve actually made a good movie, apparently. Godzilla is currently sitting at 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, higher than Million Dollar Arm, Neighbors, and Amazing Spider-Man 2. The only downfall is that the film technically lacks a bankable star, even though most people know who Bryan Cranston is by now. It does face some competition from the 2n...

Box Office Predictions: Will 'Neighbors' Top 'Spider-Man 2'

Box Office Predictions: Will 'Neighbors' Top 'Spider-Man 2'
1) The Amazing Spider-Man 2- 40M Weekend, 155M Total

Spidey should drop a little over 50% this weekend. Neighbors is solid competition, but not major competition. Spidey will remain the top draw this weekend.

2) Neighbors- 35M Weekend, 35M Total

Keeping in mind this is an R rated comedy, with Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, 35M is a really solid opening. This isn’t the Hangover, this is Neighbors. Even with strong reviews, and solid previews, I’m betting this film tops out around 35M. Rogen had This Is The End last year which only managed 20M, so this would be a huge improvement upon that.
