Brave
Unsurprisingly, Pixar animated film "Brave" ruled the box office over the weekend, taking in $66.7 million. The film is the 13th-straight Pixar release to open at number one since "Toy Story" was released in 1995.

"Brave," which features the first female lead in the company's history, centers on an impetuous princess named Merida (played by Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald) who discovers that a choice she makes puts both her family and her father's kingdom in peril.

The film bumped animated film "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" to the number two slot on the weekend countdown. It too...

'Madagascar 3' Holds Onto Top Spot, 'Rock Of Ages' And 'That's My Boy' Bomb

June 17th, 2012 7:03pm EDT
Madagascar 3
The new movies coming out this week were unable to shake up the top spots on the box office list: Madagascar 3 and Prometheus held onto the top two spots, while Rock of Ages and That's My Boy stumbled out of the gates.

The animated Madagascar 3 took in $35.5 million to stay on top, bringing its total to just above $120 million. Sci-fi thriller Prometheus made $20 million, putting its total haul at $88.5 million.

Star-studded Rock of Ages couldn't make moviegoers love the musical, making a mere $15 million. It needs another $60 million to match its budget, let alone promotional costs.

Trailer Talk: Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' Could Be This Summer's Next Big Blockbuster & More

June 4th, 2012 1:02pm EDT
Prometheus
Arriving in theaters this week are Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sci-fi vehicle “Prometheus,” the silly computer animated sequel “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” the coming-of-age comedy “Lola Versus,” the indie time travel comedy “Safety Not Guaranteed,” the period piece drama “Bel Ami,” the family relationship dramedy “Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding,” and Todd Solondz’s drama “Dark Horse.”

Unfortunately my pick from last week, “Snow White and the Huntsman,” was plagued by bad acting, lackluster action scenes, and farfetched concepts even for a fairy tale. Not only was it diff...

Can 'Avengers,' 'Dark Knight Rises,' And 'Amazing Spider-Man' Make 2012 The Best Movie Summer Ever?

May 2nd, 2012 2:07pm EDT
The Avengers
The movie industry earned $4.3 billion last summer at the U.S. box office to make it the best summer ever (I thought piracy was killing the industry?) but don't expect the mark to last for long. There's a team of superhero movies coming along, and each one could break records.

The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers look to score over $400 million each and should be boosted with IMAX and 3D premiums. Thus far, The Avengers have already made $218 million overseas. There's also PIXAR's Brave and The Amazing Spider-Man - Pixar is always good for a cash infusion, but we'll have to wait and see ...
