Mad Mission Review
This endearingly bizarre action comedy from Hong Kong plays like a hybrid of Smokey and the Bandit and The_Naked_Gun, with a sprinkling of the gadgets from the James_Bond movies. It is silly beyond words, but that's also a key part of its charm. Raymond_Wong's screenplay occasionally flags in its pacing and starts to run out of steam near the end, but its eccentricities and inventiveness make up for these flaws. Director Eric_Tsang treats this tale like a big comic book, piling on the stunts and slapstick with broad splashes of primary colors. Best of all, Aces Go Places has a trio of likable stars who handle the comedy and action with equal brio: Sam_Hui is a suitably charming anti-hero, Karl_Maka rejoices in every opportunity to send up tough-cop clichés, and Sylvia_Chang seems to be channeling the screwball comedy heroines of yesteryear as the tough-yet-tender femme cop in the middle. In short, Aces Go Places is definitely for specialized tastes, but those who can tune into its wacked-out wavelength with find plenty to enjoy. Donald Guarisco, Rovi
