'True Grit' & 'Black Swan' Scores Ineligible For Oscars

January 2nd, 2011 8:00pm EST
True Grit
The scores for True Grit and Black Swan have been ruled out of the Oscar race - because they feature too much existing music.

Officials at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences have selected 77 film scores for members to vote on between now and January 14, when the ballots are due - and there are some big omissions.

The Academy bosses have disqualified Clint Mansell's Black Swan score and Carter Burwell's True Grit music - because they feature themes from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and sections from 19th-century music, respectively.

Burwell's The Kids Are Alright score has also been...

And to help them portray a lustful couple, the two actors discussed their own romantic histories and watched old movies to decide how best to film the intimate moments.

Hathaway tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "We had to go to a lot of emotionally and physically vulnerable places ...

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star hates the taste of flu remedy Theraflu but gets "a buzz" from sipping it.

Oscar Producers: 'James Franco & Anne Hathaway Personify Next Generation Of Hollywood Icons'

November 30th, 2010 11:09am EST
James Franco & Anne Hathaway
It's that time of year again--time to announce the Academy Award host. I hear the groans already. Before you fire off a letter to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, you need to understand one thing. The Academy does not choose the host, it is the job of the Executive Producers to find the perfect host for the show. Did you stare at the TV screen hoping for a laugh from Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin last year? Blame Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic. Were Jon Stewart's two trips to the host podium a bore for you? Well, that was a Gil Cates decision twice over.

Yesterday, Anne H...

The most interesting twist is that both hosts are in consideration for awards. Franco is considered a favorite to win Best Actor for his performance in Danny Boyle's 127 Hours, whereas Hathaway has a long-shot chance at Best Actress for Love and Other Drugs.

It is only the second time since 1987 that more than one host has been sel...

Review:'Love and Other Drugs' 'Two Jews On Film' Have Lover's Quarrel (Video)

November 24th, 2010 4:13pm EST
LoveDrugs-112210-0004.jpg
'Love & Other Drugs' directed by Edward Zwick is what you call an unconventional, quirky love story. Anne Hathaway portrays Maggie, a free spirit who won't let anything get her down. She also enjoys having sex...lots of sex...preferably, meaningless sex. And that works just fine for Jamie Randall (Jake Gyllenhall), a very charming, good looking, pharmaceutical salesman with a hot bod and not much consciousness. So these two pretty people hook up...over and over again, always reassuring each other that the last thing they want to do is... fall in love. Well, we've all seen enough Holl...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies- 'Tangled,' 'Burlesque' & More

November 22nd, 2010 11:30am EST
Tangled
I caught “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” last Monday, which turned out to be largely uneventful. While there are moments in the beginning and end that are quite stimulating, most of the movie involves tedious set up for the final film. If you have not seen my review yet definitely check it out here.

In addition to “Deathly Hallows: Part 1” I had the opportunity to see the Paul Haggis thriller “The Next Three Days,” starring Russell Crowe. Crowe is surprisingly believable as an everyman character forced to make tough choices to save his family. That’s why it’s so surpris...

'Love And Other Drugs': Anne Hathaway Plus Jake Gyllenhaal Equals Awesome

November 19th, 2010 10:42am EST
Love And Other Drugs
For the first time since Brokeback Mountain, Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway have been reunited. The result is Love and Other Drugs, a film that may not be quite as earth-shattering as Brokeback was, but still doesn’t fail to bring home the bacon.

Jake Gyllenhaal plays Jamie, a pharmaceutical rep with a natural talent for charming everyone--especially women. Countering his performance is Anne Hathaway as Maggie, a 26 year-old woman with early-onset Parkinson’s Disease. Maggie is no-nonsense where Jamie is charming, but they do share one similarity: they want sex, not a relationship.

November will unleash on moviegoers some of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. Sure to be the biggest opener of the month will be “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” which will ease fans into the end of the “Harry Potter” movie franchise. Director David Yates returns to helm the last two installments of the series which will be much appreciated by die-hard fans of the books and movies.
