10 Romantic Movies That Girls Go Crazy Over
It's Valentine's Day, and one way you can make your sweetie happy is by watching one of her favorite romantic films. At the top of the list is "The Notebook" from Nicholas Sparks.

The Notebook

This epic love story is centered around an older man who reads aloud to an older, invalid woman whom he regularly visits. From a faded notebook, the old man's words bring to life the story about a couple who is separated by World War II, and is then passionately reunited, seven years later, after they have taken different paths

Love Actually

Everywhere you look, love is causing chaos. ...

January 7th, 2014 9:42am EST
Kris Marshall
Love Actually star Kris Marshall has opened up about his real life kidnapping drama while filming a movie in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The 40 year-old English actor played the lead role in 2011 film Oka! Amerikee, about a music expert living in the jungles of central Africa, but the shoot was regularly interrupted by rogue army officials.

The film's producer was held for ransom by local warlords, and their attentions turned to Marshall when they realized he was the movie's star.

Marshall tells Britain's Radio Times magazine, "I actually got kidnapped while making a film in the...

December 24th, 2013 8:20pm EST
British filmmaker Richard Curtis is planning to use the holidays to reconnect with his Love Actually cast a decade after the movie became a big hit.

The director has no plans to make a sequel but he would like to keep in touch with the stars of the festive love story, and he believes the anniversary - and the fact the film airs in Britain on Christmas Day (25Dec13) - will give him the perfect opportunity to get in touch with some of the players he hasn't spoken to for years.

He explains, "Can you imagine anything less likely than a reunion? It’s so interesting with people who are famous a...

5 Christmas Songs To Get You In The Holiday Spirit

November 30th, 2013 4:00pm EST
5 Christmas Songs To Get In The Holiday Mood
It’s that time of year again. With a mere four weeks to go before the big day what better way to get in the mood then listening to some classic Christmas songs. Well admittedly, if you’ve gone shopping in any store or mall, you’ve been hearing these songs since November 1… And I’m not sure that The Dollar Tree ever actually takes down their Christmas decorations.

As a teenager my favorite Christmas album was The Beach Boys Christmas Album. The local country station would play a marathon of Christmas songs starting on like December 23 and go through all of Christmas day. Over the years sinc...

October 3rd, 2013 8:41pm EDT
Richard Curtis
Actor Bill Nighy will be forever grateful to writer/director pal Richard Curtis for helping him deliver one of the best wedding speeches ever.

The British actor, who has teamed up with Curtis for The Girl in the Cafe, Love Actually and Pirate Radio, among other movies, asked his friend to help him with a "pivotal speech" he was asked to deliver at another pal's wedding - and the filmmaker delivered perfection in just 24 hours.

Nighy tells WENN, "I could do the serious bit but I knew I had to have some jokes. I texted Richard Curtis and he said, 'Tell me a couple of things about the groom'...

May 13th, 2012 4:35pm EDT
Love Actually
The president of Universal Pictures has urged British director/writer Richard Curtis to come up with a follow-up to hit 2003 romantic comedy Love Actually.

The British film, which focused on several different characters trying to find love, was a big hit at the box office, and now Universal chief Eddie Cunningham is hoping to convince the film's mastermind to pen a sequel.

He tells Britain's Mail on Sunday, "I think there should be a Love Actually 2. I'd give it a green light. I think many American movies try to emulate that brilliant format where the stories interweave and no one's on sc...

Spotlight: Liam Neeson - The Unexpected Movie Star

January 27th, 2012 3:00pm EST
Liam Neeson in The Grey
This weekend, audiences will get the chance to see Liam Neeson fight a pack of hungry wolves in order to say alive in “The Grey” from director Joe Carnahan. Though he has become a worldwide action star with films like “Taken” and “Unknown,” 15 years ago the Irish-born former amateur boxer was better known for dramas like “Schindler’s List” and “Michael Collins.” That’s not to say he takes the craft of acting any less seriously now than he did back then. He is still as talented and charismatic as ever, only now he seems to be having a lot more fun.

So how did Neeson go from being a serious ...

'Valentine's Day' & Other Movies With Star-Studded Casts

February 12th, 2010 2:50pm EST
Ah, Valentine's Day weekend, the perfect time for Hollywood to embrace the mainstream audience by giving them cheesy and wonderful romantic comedies to prepare for the big day of love. This year the aptly named "Valentine's Day" is perfectly timed to get big notice, but one of the first things that impresses viewers is seeing the celebrity cast involved. It seems like almost every major actor is involved with this project, including Julia Roberts, Jamie Foxx, Ashton Kutcher, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Garner, Patrick Dempsey, and on and on with at least ten other ...

30 Days of Christmas: Week Five - Modern Classics

December 26th, 2009 5:30pm EST
The Nightmare Before Christmas
One holiday. One month. One woman. Thirty individual movies. Readers ready? Go!

Day Twenty-Five: December 20, 2009 - Love Actually

"Love Actually" is a long one, as far as holiday movies go. Some would assume it is too long for a genre that is notoriously known for cheesy carols and over-the-top design. However, what is at the core here are some very sweet (and often intertwining) stories about young love. From the racy movie stand-ins who come together (no pun intended), bonding even in awkward situations, to the elementary aged boy who is convinced he has found his true love, to the...

Nick Frost Squeezed Into The 'Pirate Radio' Boat

November 11th, 2009 9:20am EST
Pirate Radio
Richard "Love Actually" Curtis tells a historical story in Pirate Radio. In the early '60s, rock n' roll music was banned in the U.K., so DJs just sailed boats off the coast to broadcast. The film has fun with the lives of DJs on the boat. Actor Nick Frost joked about the tight spaces, particularly in proportion to his own size.

"They got tighter when I got in them, put it that way," Frost said. "They're small. The sets were so intricate and perfect that that was a tiny bathroom and it was really small. It was tight."

Part of that is movie magic. Just to shove a camera into those cabi...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - '2012,' 'Pirate Radio' & More

November 9th, 2009 9:52am EST
At some point this week I hope to catch the wacky comedy "The Men Who Stare at Goats." While I have read some bad reviews of the film, I believe my tendency to disagree with the mainstream, could be a wild card for my own appraisal of the movie.

I'm having difficulty believing the collection of George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges could contribute to a horrific film considering I how much appreciate their abilities on screen.

Roland Emmerich destroys the world yet another time this week with his apocalyptic tale "2012." The quirky animation of Wes Anders...

Is Real Life Celebrity Distracting In 'Reel' Life Couples?

October 7th, 2009 10:24am EDT
Couples Retreat
The upcoming Universal Studios romantic comedy "Couples Retreat" (Oct. 9) is about a group of friends with various problems in their marriages who go on a therapeutic tropical island vacation together. Written by and starring Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn, it also features Jason Bateman, Faizon Love, Malin Akerman, Kristen Bell, and Kristin Davis.

The movie is full of the usual relationship pitfalls and tensions, offset by the manic one-liners for which Vaughn has become known. It focuses on four couples, but throw in all of these recognizable faces, and the audience is taken out of the ...

Starpulse's Explosive Summer Movie Preview

May 1st, 2009 10:06am EDT
Star Trek
Since the dawn of the American cinematic blockbuster in the late 1970s and early 1980s, moviegoers have eagerly waited for May - the unofficial beginning of summertime. This summer is no different. Films, and most popular media, are social mirrors, and this summer season supports that. The large box office contenders all deal with very similar themes: escapism and the support of the lone, outlaw hero figure (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Up, Transformers 2, Public Enemies, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Inglourious Basterds, et...

Philip Seymour Hoffman Stars In 'The Boat That Rocked'; In Theaters Aug. 28

April 24th, 2009 6:30pm EDT
The Boat That Rocked
In the late 1960s, American radio stations blasted rock and roll 24 hours a day. But in the home country of the Beatles and The Rolling Stones, the only way 25 million people could hear their music was to tune in…to a boat.

Celebrated filmmaker Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's Diary, Love Actually) brings the incredible story of a band of rogue deejays who captivated British radio listeners in the '60s, playing the music that defined a generation and boldly defying the government that tried to shut them down - The Boat That Rocked.

Actor Bill Nighy Refuses To Do Sex Scenes

March 29th, 2009 11:00am EDT
Bill Nighy
British actor has never filmed a sex scene for a movie - because he is too embarrassed by his body to ever strip off on camera. The 59-year-old star has enjoyed a long and varied career, beginning in theater and going on to land high profile roles in movies including the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and 2003's Love Actually.

But Nighy admits he has always shied away from roles as the romantic lead - as he would never be brave enough to bare all for cinema audiences.

He says, "I'm too shy and I didn't want to take my top off, as I've got a difficult body. I didn't want to sh...

December 14th, 2008 9:15am EST
Most people have heard of The 12 Days of Christmas and most no nothing more about them than the strange song with geese a-laying and five golden rings somewhere in the middle section. For those of us who worship movies as a religion we can present some gifts to ourselves, and our fellow movie lovers, by celebrating the 12 Films of Christmas. Whether you choose to lead up to Christmas with these classics or flip the ...

Emma Thompson: 'Motherhood Outweighs Acting Success'

October 5th, 2008 10:00am EDT
Emma Thompson
British actress Emma Thompson regards "giving birth without painkillers" as her biggest accomplishment in life, despite scooping two Oscars for her film work. The Love Actually star, 49, went through in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment to have her only daughter Gaia, nine, with actor husband Greg Wise.

And she admits that she is more proud of going into labour without the need for drugs than she is about her career success.

However, she confesses to harborin...

May 7th, 2008 8:30am EDT

Throughout cinematic history, there has been a plethora of actors that, for some reason or another, never become a household name. So here is a cheat sheet of sorts, a brief encyclopedia on "That Guy."

After reading this you can impress your friends! Win the movie game (the one where you name an actor, someone names a film he or she was in, next player names another actor in that film, etc....

Movies With Heart: The 100 Best 'Romdramedies' Of The Past 20 Years

April 17th, 2008 8:00am EDT
There's the quintessential romantic comedy, and then there's the romdramedy. Similar to a dramedy (in which there is an equal balance of humor and serious content), a romdramedy combines comedy and drama with that mushy thing we call romance.

This is not a list of the best films over the past 20 years. Rather it is a list that gives preferences to those films that best combine all three elements - romance, comedy and drama.

Films like Magnolia and The Matrix were barred from competition, while films like Down with Love were considered (however, that one didn't make the cut)....

Starpulse's 'Top 10 Christmas Movies Of All Time'

December 1st, 2007 11:00am EST
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
I'm sitting with my family at the Thanksgiving table. At the focus is the bird carcass, a bulging centerpiece surrounded by newly stuffed bodies. The cranberry jello, still quivering in the shape of the can, is the only untouched side dish. There is a settling quiet as the full-stomached groans subside and give way to satisfied smiles, until finally somebody strikes up a conversation. Like the feeding frenzy that preceded it, it starts out slow and steadily grows more frantic.

"Oh you can't put that on there!"

"Says who? You... oh yeah.. Mr. Expert."

"I like Love Actually."...

Hugh Grant
Hugh Grant got more than he bargained for after accepting the lead role in Love Actually - he found out he was related to child actor Thomas Sangster. The actor, 47, was unaware of the family ties with the 17-year-old actor - until Sangster informed him on the set of the romantic comedy.

Sangster explains, "I remember thinking : 'That's that guy from Notting Hill.' That guy from Notting Hill was Hugh Grant, who turned out to be a cousin in sorts. Hugh Grant Failed To Impress Screenwriter Of 'Four Weddings And A Funeral'

April 11th, 2007 11:17am EDT
Hugh Grant
British screenwriter Richard Curtis did not want Hugh Grant to play the lead role in his breakout movie Four Weddings And A Funeral, according to the actor. Grant claims the film's creator did not want him for the part of Charles, opposite Andie Macdowell's Carrie in the 1994 blockbuster and says he failed to impress the BAFTA winning writer during his audition.

He says, "There was only one person who looked really miserable - the guy wearing glasses sitting at the back. That was Richard Curtis.

"He never wanted me, he wanted someone else. But you'll have to ask him about that."
