Check Out Little Shop of Horrors: The Director's Cut + Theatrical Blu-ray

October 10th, 2012 6:44am EDT
Little Shop Of Horrors
Rick Moranis plays nebbish Seymour Krelborn, who works in a rundown flower shop on Skid Row in 1986's "Little Shop Of Horrors."

While his boss (Vincent Gardenia) bemoans the lack of business, Seymour seeks a way of bringing the shop - and himself - fame and fortune. He purchases a strange plant from an even stranger oriental street vendor (Vincent Wong), naming the plant after his girlfriend Audrey (Ellen Greene, one of the few carry-overs from the Broadway version).

Gradually, Seymour learns to his horror that "Audrey II" (given the voice of R&B performer Levi Stubbs) craves blood and fl...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Inception star Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to revamp Rick Moranis' nerdy role in a new version of hit musical Little Shop of Horrors.

Glee writer/co-producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is working on a script for a third movie adaptation of the colourful stageshow, according to The Hollywood Reporter - and Gordon-Levitt is reportedly close to signing on as lovestruck hero Seymour.

The film has a history of big-name links - Jack Nicholson appeared in the 1960 version and Steve Martin portrayed a manic dentist in Moranis' 1986 movie, which also featured John Candy, Jim Belushi and soul lege...

October 13th, 2010 3:24pm EDT
The Little Shop of Horrors (1960)
Continuing on with a similar theme from Monday is a Little Shop of Horrors double bill, first with the 1960 low-budget original, directed by a hesitant Roger Corman, followed by the 1986 film adaptation of the Alan Menken and Howard Ashman penned Off-Broadway musical. Both are funny, neither is particularly horrific, and while one has a very young Jack Nicholson, the other has Bill Murray—so it’s a bit of a toss-up as to which is the better killer plant movie.

By the late 50s Roger Corman had already hit his monster movie stride, churning out an unbelievable number of B-movies for paltry s...

Spotlight On Movies That Became Musicals

August 28th, 2008 10:30am EDT
The Little Mermaid
Fans of movie musicals know that most of their favorites, like "Grease," "West Side Story," "The Sound of Music," and "Oklahoma!" were adapted from popular Broadway plays. However, the trend in recent years has been to flip that formula around by taking a big-screen hit and trying to turn it into a small-stage sensation.

Disney has had great success with its theatrical adaptations, starting in 1994 with the critically-acclaimed "Beauty and the Beast." The hits kept coming with stage productions of "The Lion King," "Mary Poppins," and, most recently, "The Little Mermaid."
