Day 7: Dead and Buried (1981)

I had initially intended to impose a zombie movie moratorium on this month. Like it or not, zombies have invaded every aspect of popular culture over the past couple of years with the success of The Walking Dead, zombie pub crawls and, I don't know, zombie novelty t-shirts--and frankly, I’m rather sick of the whole thing. But, not all zombies are the shambling brain eating types, and Dead and Buried is a good example of what you can do with the undead if you put just an ounce of creativity into it.

Folks don’t take too kindly to strangers in Potter’s Bluff, w...

'The Last Exorcism' DVD Review & Interview With Patrick Fabian

'The Last Exorcism' DVD cover art.
Releasing on DVD and Blu-Ray January 4th, 2011, “The Last Exorcism” is the perfect film to watch while snuggled-up under a warm blanket on a cold winter’s night—especially if you like an actual story with your scares. We had an opportunity to interview Patrick Fabian, who portrays central character Reverend Cotton Marcus in the film. Fabian delivers a superb performance as Cotton, a surprisingly complex character for a horror flick, who questions his faith and ultimately faces the consequences of living a lie.

“The Last Exorcism” is filmed in the documentary-style seen in similar horror mo...

'The Last Exorcism' Poster Banned In Britain

November 5th, 2010 8:28am EDT
Eli Roth
A poster for Eli Roth's horror movie The Last Exorcism has been banned in the U.K. by officials who ruled it was "likely to upset children."

A graphic promo picture for the film, which was released in Britain in September, upset some cinema goers and the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received a number of complaints over the shot.

Film fans claimed the graphic image of a young girl doubled over with her dress covered in blood was distressing and unsuitable for public display - and chiefs at the advertising watchdog have agreed with the complainants. They ruled that the offensive ...

Peaches Geldof and Eli Roth
Director Eli Roth and rock wildchild Peaches Geldof have called off their relationship due to their hectic schedules, according to reports.

"The Last Exorcism" filmmaker and Bob Geldof's socialite daughter, who celebrated their six-month anniversary in August, are said to have parted ways so they can focus on their work commitments.

But the pair has decided to remain friends, according to Britain's Sunday Mirror.

A source tells the newspaper, "Peaches is really sad that things didn't work out with Eli. They were very much in love and she'd never been so nuts about a guy.

"But both are h...

31 Days Of Horror 2010: Third Times The Harm... 3D

31 Days of Horror (Vampyr)
Greetings ghouls, goblins and basement dwellers!

Unless you’re in Southern California (113 degrees this week!) the weather is starting to cool off and the neighborhood trees are just starting to throw on their fall colors. The month of October means different things to all types of people: sports fans have football season hitting its stride, food-blog types have new vegetables to shill, kids have a lot of school to attend--which kind of sucks for them. For me the month of October means watching an unhealthy amount of horror movies.

For the past two years, I’ve watched a horror movie I had...

Rapper T.I.'s new movie "Takers" has been declared the box office winner after a too-close-to-call opening weekend cinema fight with horror film "The Last Exorcism."

'Last Exorcism' Wins Weekend Box Office; 'Avatar' Re-Release Is A Flop

August 30th, 2010 9:50am EDT
Last Exorcism
James Cameron's re-release of sci-fi epic "Avatar" was a flop at the box office over the weekend, as "The Last Exorcism" held on to a thin lead over bank heist movie "Takers."

The horror film came out on top, debuting with $21.3 million in earnings, followed closely by "Takers" - the crime drama starring Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen and Matt Dillon opened with $21 million.

But the figures were so close, experts have warned the films could make a switch in the number one and two spots ahead of Monday's final weekend results.

Meanwhile, Cameron's 3-D special edition of "Avatar," which i...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Takers,' 'The Last Exorcism,' & More

August 23rd, 2010 8:56am EDT
Takers
I took a breather from the theaters last week to catch some movies on DVD that I had not seen yet. I was quite impressed with last year’s indie drama “Uncertainty” starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film focuses on a couple (Levitt and Lynn Collins) that is unsure how to spend their 4th of July. They flip a coin to determine their fate, and after the coin hits the ground, they run in opposite directions into separate stories.

Both tales include the couple attempting to reach a critical decision while grappling with the potential repercussions of this choice. In the first storyline, Bo...

The Last Exorcism

Will There Be Any Surprise Movie Gems in August?

August 10th, 2010 11:14am EDT

This past weekend, “The Other Guys,” starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, unseated “Inception” for the top spot at the box office. Notorious for mediocre movies, August is typically the worst month of the year for any moviegoer who craves an inspired experience at the theater.

This August, however, may be different as “The Other Guys” has already gotten solid reviews from critics and a $35 million opening weekend. The re-teaming of Ferrell and writer/director Adam McKay has already spiced up the box office for the early part of August and several other titles makes one wonder if the re...
