Actor Jack Black became the coolest dad in town after inviting his child's entire school to a screening of his new movie Kung Fu Panda 2.

The funnyman, who has two boys - Tommy, three, and Sammy, four - treated his eldest son's lucky schoolmates to a private showing of the animated family film - weeks before it hit theaters.

He explains, "This one they (the kids) loved. I got to have a private screening. Mr. (Jeffrey) Katzenberg, the boss over there at DreamWorks (studio), said, 'Hey Jack want to have a private screening for your kids?'

"And so we brought all the kids from my boy's schoo...

Kung Fu Panda 2
Angelina Jolie's six kids have given mom's "Kung Fu Panda" sequel the thumbs up, insisting they all want to see the film again.

The actress nervously invited her children to a screening of the movie, fearing the complex themes relating to inner peace would be too difficult for her youngest to grasp - but they all loved it.

Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival in France, where she's promoting the film, Jolie says, "I was nervous at first, I didn't know if they were going to react to some of the issues in it - there are very personal family issues and adoption and inner peace.

"(I wondered...

'Kung Fu Panda' Lawsuit Moves Forward

December 7th, 2010 2:12pm EST
Kung Fu Panda
A writer who is suing bosses at DreamWorks Animation for allegedly stealing his idea for hit film Kung Fu Panda has been granted permission to delve into the company's private financial records.

The 2008 movie, which features the voices of Jack Black and Angelina Jolie, was a box office smash, grossing $600 million worldwide.

Terence Dunn filed a lawsuit against the firm in June, claiming DreamWorks Animation bosses used a story he pitched to them back in 2001, about a "spiritual kung fu fighting panda bear," as the basis for the popular picture.

Film company bosses hit back and filed ...

Macy
For most people Thanskgiving Day is about turkey, football and the late afternoon tryptophan coma (a myth that's been debunked - yet we all get sleepy for some reason). But none of it would feel right without starting the day with a little breakfast, a hot cup of coffee and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The yearly American tradition expects 3.5 million people to line the streets of New York City with another 50 million television viewers watching from the comfort of their living rooms.

The parade is most notable for it's gigantic helium ballons, marching bands and dance troupes; as ...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies-'How To Train Your Dragon,' 'Greenberg,' & More

The hot tub machine
On Thursday night I finally went to see “Crazy Heart” since it was still playing at one of my local theaters. While it’s not always the happiest film, it is grounded and real, like you’re actually following the life of a country musician addicted to the rock star lifestyle, despite being past his prime.

Jeff Bridges gives a deep and nuanced performance as the lead character Bad Blake, convincingly portrays a washed up country singer riding on fumes. Blake’s selfish behavior and penchant for the bottle alienate him from other characters in the film, but Bridges’ kind face and sense of hum...

NBC's 'Community' Handles Jack Black And Other Guest Stars Well

January 15th, 2010 9:34am EST
Community
During all the NBC internet chatter this week, I couldn't wait for new episodes of scripted comedy. The Thursday lineup was loaded with guest stars, none bigger than Jack Black's appearance on Community, which says one if not two things: the show is underperforming ratings-wise, and A-list actors want to be a part of a comedy they enjoy watching.

The question is not how the Kung Fu Panda would interact with the tight ensemble cast, but how the show's producers would buck the tired traditional sitcom celebrity guest tropes.

Viewers tune into Community because it takes familiar sitcom...

Best Celebrity Voice Acting Roles

June 12th, 2009 9:22am EDT
Kung Fu Panda
Voice acting is a much more lucrative business than one might imagine, with the actors in question providing their voice for animated movies, video games, television shows, voice overs, and anything else that requires a voice but no face. Some actors do only that kind of work, giving themselves a certain amount of fame in that industry, such as "The Simpsons" cast.

Everything changed when voice acting became a business not only for unknowns, but also an attractive fad for celebrities who wanted to broaden their horizons ... or make a movie "for the kids." Now it seems that no animated...
