Matthew McConaughey has announced he will take on the lead role in Christopher Nolan's time-travelling adventure, Interstellar.

The Magic Mike actor admitted during an interview with the Minneapolis Star Tribune that he would be taking on the lead role in Christopher Nolan's secretive new sci-fi film. The time-travelling movie is said to be inspired by the scientific theories of relativity expert Kip S. Thorne, a theoretical physicist, gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech, the California Institute of Technology.

The plot will center around a group of space explorers who ...

Two Jews On Their Top Ten Films Of 2012

Life of Pi
2012 was a great year for films - studio films as well as Indy titles all scored big.

From the exquisite writing, directing, special effects, I found myself laughing hysterically from a foul mouth, over-sexed pot smoking bear, to a bunch of folks freaking out at the prospect of turning 40.

We had cutting edge performances from Matthew McConaughey ('Killer Joe' & 'The Paper Boy), Nicole Kidman ('The Paper Boy'), John Hawkes and Helen Hunt ('The Sessions') as well as Daniel Day Lewis ('Lincoln') Anthony Hopkins (Hitchcock) and the whole cast of 'Django Unchained'.

As usual, John and I didn...

Review: 'Killer Joe' A Brilliant, Depraved, Black Comedy

July 25th, 2012 9:39pm EDT
Killer Joe
'Killer Joe' written by the brilliant, Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Tracy Letts (based on his play) and directed by the 70+ year old, William Friedkin (Exorcist) blew me away for many reasons.

But the main one is Matthew McConaughey's extraordinary Oscar worthy performance as cop/hitman, Killer Joe Cooper. Never has McConaughey been better or more terrifying.

The film is a black comedy. It's violent, sexual, raw, thrilling and yes, funny in a very dark twisted, sort of way.

The story revolves around a trailer trash dysfunctional family and the killer they hire to knock off someon...

Trailer Talk: 'The Watch,' 'Step Up Revolution,' and 'Killer Joe'

The Watch Poster
Last week I caught Christopher Nolan’s final Batman flick “The Dark Knight Rises,” which turned out to be a satisfying conclusion to his trilogy. Nolan ups the dramatic stakes significantly in “TDKR,” by introducing incredibly dark themes and a vile villain. While I didn’t like it as much as “The Dark Knight,” I actually found “TDKR” to be more enjoyable than “Batman Begins.” It’s hard to top the Joker as a bad guy, but Bane is much more ferocious and imposing than Ra’s Al Ghul.

As I suspected, Bane is a bit hard to understand at points, although his speech is clearer than I thought it wou...

LA Film Fest 2012 Review - 'Killer Joe' Highlights Intense And Uncomfortable To Mask Faults

June 19th, 2012 12:22pm EDT
Killer Joe
Filmmaker William Friedkin has always been a provocative filmmaker. From child horrors in "The Exorcist" to the bad side of the law via "To Live and Die in L.A.," Friedkin has never been one to shy away from strong subject matter. His new film "Killer Joe" is no exception, going unconventionally far in its desire to immerse the audience in the dark worlds presented. Problem is that the films’ uneven tone and shaky writing end up making the most of the salacious bits of "Killer Joe" feel like they’re simply present for one purpose – shock value.

Chris Smith (Emile Hirsch) is a young man ...

Vincent D'Onofrio's Serial Killer Film 'Chained' Gets NC-17 Rating

May 3rd, 2012 9:44am EDT
Vincent D'Onofrio
Producers behind Vincent D'Onofrio's new serial killer movie "Chained" have lost their ratings appeal, and the film will be released with a restrictive NC-17 tag.

Motion Picture Association of America censors ruled the thriller was too violent for an R rating and they slapped the film, directed by David Lynch's daughter Jennifer, with a dreaded NC-17, which bans anyone aged 17 and under from viewing the movie.

Executives at distributors Anchor Bay Entertainment battled the decision but had their appeal rejected on Tuesday.

It's the second time in six weeks that an appeals board for the M...

Matthew McConaughey Got His Mom A Part In His SXSW Film 'Bernie'

March 15th, 2012 12:17pm EDT
Bernie
Matthew McConaughey had two films show during the SXSW film festival in Austin, TX this week, the dark and violent Killer Joe and the true crime comedy Bernie. The real star though maybe his mother, who makes a cameo appearance in Bernie. McConaughey reunites with his Dazed and Confused director Richard Linklater in the latter film.

“He’s done this,” McConaughey said. “In Newton Boys he hired my oldest brother Rooster and put us in a scene together, all right? So mom tells me she went to audition, or met. She goes, ‘And Rick said he thinks I’m just right for it.’ So a couple weeks go by an...
