British actor Rowan Atkinson was hospitalized on Thursday night after crashing his $1 million supercar in the English countryside.

The Johnny English star reportedly lost control of his McLaren F1 motor in Cambridgeshire and smashed into a tree and then a lamppost.

Emergency services attended the scene and Atkinson was taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for a shoulder injury, according to Britain's The Sun.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service says, "We were called to a single car road traffic collision at 7.30pm... A male was taken to Peterborough Genera...

British funnyman Rowan Atkinson has wrecked his car without even leaving home - the star reportedly smashed up his luxury vehicle on his own driveway.

The actor, who found international fame as the hapless Mr. Bean, seems to have taken inspiration from his clumsy alter-ego after he drove his expensive Audi convertible into a garbage truck right outside his house in Northants, England.

Atkinson is said to have suffered bruising to his face and ribs following the incident, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper.

Funnyman Rowan Atkinson is to re-team with his Johnny English director Peter Howitt to revamp Charles Dickens' David Copperfield. The movie pals have secured a $30 million budget for the project, which is set to start shooting in 2008.

Atkinson will play Copperfield's landlord Mr. Micawber in the latest version of Dickens' hardship tale. The last time the story hit the big screen was in 1935 when W.C. Fields played Micawber.
