Matt Damon The Informant
Last week we listed some celebrities that lost weight for their movie roles. Now, let's take a look at the other side of the spectrum - stars that risked their figures for movie roles by packing on pounds.

Michelle Williams convinced the director of Blue Valentine that her character should weight more. She put on 15 pounds when she played the part. Her co-star Ryan Gosling gained 14.

Remember Matt Damon when he was fat? The heartthrob put 30 pounds of weight on his frame to play a doughy office worker in The Informant! He then shed it all as quickly as possible for fitter roles in Invic...

August 8th, 2010 4:08pm EDT
Clint Eastwood
Actor/Director Clint Eastwood is the latest star to fight a decision to shut down the UK Film Council (UKFC) - he's written a personal letter appealing against the plan.

The UKFC, which was established to develop and promote British cinema, has fallen victim to massive spending cuts as the country's new government attempts to curb spiralling debt.

More than 50 British actors, including James McAvoy, Emily Blunt and Bill Nighy, have signed a letter calling for a reversal of the decision, and now Eastwood has penned his own appeal to British politician George Osbourne.

He writes, "I cannot...

What We Were All Thinking - The Full Starpulse Oscars Recap

March 8th, 2010 1:50am EST
Oscar Feature
Tonight's Oscar ceremony is probably the most re-designed ceremony in Academy history.

Just look at all the changes. 10 Best Picture nominees, two hosts, no Best Song performances, more dance, a supposed streamlined show, and, weirdest of all, a request for no "thank yous" during the acceptance speeches.

Plus, a few of last year's tweaks will remain. They're sticking with the abhorrent practice of having five actors come out and sing the praises of the year's present crop of nominees (at least only in the Leading categories this year), and the producers are insistent on further expandin...

2010 Oscars Predictions: Who Will Win & Who Should Win

March 5th, 2010 10:27am EST
2010 Oscars Predictions: Who Will Win & Who Should Win
This has the chance to become the most exciting Oscar night ever.

Why? Because nobody seems to have any real clue as to which movie will win Best Picture. “Avatar” seems like a good choice – it made $700 Million, changed movies, James Cameron directs, yada yada yada – but so does “The Hurt Locker” with its crazy critical raves and industry buzz. Compounding the problem is the Weinstein-backed “Inglorious Basterds” which has been gaining momentum all month. It’s a logjam at the top.

This is created not only by the fact that we have ten Best Picture nominees this year, but because the n...

82nd Oscar Nomination Reaction: The Snubs, Surprises & Who Shouldn't Have Been Nominated

February 2nd, 2010 3:34pm EST
82nd Oscar Surprises, Snubs & Who Shouldn
And there were ten.

It seems kind of strange to say that, right? Ten Best Picture nominees? We knew it was coming for nearly a year, but now it's actually there. In Black and white. Ten nominees. Strange.

After seeing the list, it's easy to see that the Academy might be on to something. Sure, it would have gotten the biggest blockbuster of all time with "Avatar" earning a Best Picture nomination if there were only five nominees, but it would have missed out on other massive hits like "The Blind Side", "Up", and "District 9".

Now, the telecast is going to get a lot more casual...

Avatar & The Hurt Locker dominated the Academy Award nominations this morning, and we're sure there were plenty of actors who jumped up and down when they received their nominations.

The only thing that looks better on a resume than an Academy Award nomination is the award itself! Sure, a Golden Globe Award is nice, and a Screen Actors Guild award is commendable, but it's not the same as having your very own Oscar.

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Avatar,' 'Nine' & More

December 14th, 2009 9:25am EST
AVATAR
Last week I had a chance to catch "Invictus," director Clint Eastwood's latest effort. A lot of early buzz suggests the film should be a Best Picture contender at the Academy Awards, but I personally wasn't too impressed.

While "Invictus" isn't a terrible movie, it certainly isn't Eastwood's best. In many ways it just feels forced because the film tries too hard to send an inspirational message.

Eastwood explores a number of subplots that he never fully fleshes out, and he fails to establish the proper dramatic tension that makes a sports picture so powerful. As an audience member ...

Invictus
Last Tuesday I had the privilege of seeing Jason Reitman's "Up in the Air" and I have to say, it's a brilliant film. Much like he does in "Thank You for Smoking," Reitman takes a character that has the potential to be very unlikable and makes him sympathetic to the audience.

Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) is a man whose career involves laying people off around the country, which is a sensitive subject in America given the current economic state. Reitman exercises great care with Bingham, showing us that the man isn't coldhearted. Bingham inspires those he lays off to find new careers ...
