31 Days Of Horror, The Final Chapter: 'Interview With The Vampire,' 'The Stuff,' 'Hostel'

November 2nd, 2010 11:05am EDT
Interview with the Vampire
Oct 29 – Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994): When Twlight hit it big a couple of years ago, the main complaint about the series was that it sissified vampires. After all, Stephanie Meyer’s brood of moody nightwalkers is an attractive bunch, one that sparkles in the sunlight and pines over high school crushes—traits that don’t really cut an intimidating figure. But when you look back on vampires in popular culture, they have always been an effete bunch of nocturnal dandies. So complaints that Robert Pattison was too pretty and too teenie-bopper to play an effective vam...

Why Modern Vampires, Well, Suck

July 1st, 2009 2:19pm EDT
Twilight: New Moon
Let's blame Anne Rice. She started it, this whole vampire craze. We used to be fans, but enough is enough. Sure, vampires have been popular fodder for ages, but once you slap a pair of fangs on Brad Pitt, you can kiss the scary bit goodbye.

There used to be standards, you know. There used to be rules. No sun, no garlic, a stake to the heart and kaput. Burnings were good, as were decapitations, and you were safe so long as God was your co-pilot. Vampires were evil, blood-sucking fiends from places like Romania. They owned castles and could turn into bats. They lived in shadows. They had ...

July 3rd, 2008 8:45am EDT
