Every year, the Oscar nominations seem all sewn up. There are so many predictors – winners of critics’ awards, Golden Globe nominees and winners, BAFTA nominees and the SAG nominees. Yet somehow, almost every year, a nominee slips in out of nowhere, and pundits shake their heads asking, “Where did that come from?”

This year’s Oscar nominees will be announced next week, Jan. 25. We won’t speculate yet, but there are bound to be some surprise nominees, even to the pundits.

The Spiderwick Chronicles may not be in the same fantasy league as the tales of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and J.K. Rowling. Djimon Hounsou Says 'Blood Diamond' Was The Roughest Film He Ever Made

Djimon Hounsou says Leonardo DiCaprio left him covered in bruises while the pair filmed Blood Diamond. The Oscar-nominated actor - who plays a Mende fisherman in the movie about conflict diamonds in Sierra Leone - insists it is the "roughest" film he has ever made.

Djimon said: "I've never done anything this rough. Scene after scene my body gets hurt. It was extremely challenging. Earlier in the shoot, Leo was beating me up take after take. My chest was hurting for weeks. If I'd been white, I'd have been black and blue!"
