Outkast: In a Class of Their Own

March 27th, 2008 2:30pm EDT
As one of the hottest rap groups out today, Outkast has etched a mark in hip-hop history as perhaps the best rap group ever. They're in fair competition, however, with groups like A Tribe Called Quest and EPMD riding dutch. These groups, by coincidence, never took to transforming the perceptions of what many outside the South considered as nothing special into worthy rhyme sayers, putting Atlanta on its back and giving listeners something to nod to.

Outkast's Andre 3000 and Big Boi came together as a group in 1991 and signed to Laface Records in 1992. They were the label's first hip-h...

Robin Thicke Upset By Wife's Screen Sex With Outkast Star

June 24th, 2007 12:00pm EDT
Robin Thicke
Soul star Robin Thicke had to "man up" after watching his wife make love to chart rival Andre 3000 onscreen in Idlewild - because he found himself struggling to deal with the film romance.

Thicke, the son of actor Alan Thicke, admits he attempted to drink away the memory of his wife, Paula Patton, in clinches with the Outkast star.

He recalls, "I was a total f---ing drag. Being vulnerable and sensitive is a good thing, but being a bitch-ass with no strength? No woman wants that. I had to man up."

September 15th, 2006 1:57pm EDT
Macy Gray
Singer Macy Gray was so determined to play a brothel hostess in new Outkast movie Idlewild, director Bryan Barber was afraid of turning her down. The star made it clear she wanted the part of ghetto madam Taffy in the all-black period drama. And Barber admits he was so impressed by her direct approach he cast her in the role.

He recalls, "I've known Macy for a while and I told her about the movie and she said, 'You'd better not give my part away!' Macy has this edgy charm that's like some madam from that era. She's a woman you don't want rub the wrong way, cos she's likely to pull a s...

'Invincible' Topples 'Snakes On A Plane'

August 28th, 2006 3:43pm EDT
Mark Wahlberg is back at the top of the box office thanks to a moving new movie about an unlikely sports hero. The star plays Philadelphia Eagles legend Vince Papale in new film Invincible, which stormed to the top of the cinema list yesterday with an opening week take of $17 million. That was enough to send last week's top-grossing film, Snakes On A Plane, plummeting to number nine with a disappointing $5.9million second-week take.

NASCAR racing comedy Taladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby hangs onto the number two spot, while summer sleeper hit Little Miss Sunshine rises to num...

He tells the Los Angeles Times, "When I was flying in from Atlanta, I had to go through that machine at the airport that blows air all over you to check for bombs. And I forgot that I had five joints in my pocket. It was too late to find a trash can and I'm like, 'Where am I gonna throw this weed?'"

Terrence Howard is realizing his movie composing dreams after being inspired by Gnarls Barkley's summer smash hit "Crazy." The actor has teamed up with Outkast star and Idlewild co-star Big Boi to write and record five new tracks for an upcoming film project.

He says, "I listen to that Gnarls Barkley song 'Crazy,' and it helps me find my way on a bad day. That's my type of music. I play guitar and piano and a little flute but I cannot truly describe my music; it's just something that has to be heard. It's soft rock with some R&B thrown into it.

"I won't be bringing it out (as a ...

Outkast Say 'No' To Oprah

July 20th, 2006 3:23pm EDT
Hip hop duo Outkast have reportedly snubbed the chance to promote their upcoming film and album on The Oprah Winfrey Show because of the chat show host's perceived negative opinion of rap music.

Fellow rapper Ludacris blasted Oprah Winfrey when she criticized the lyrical content of his tracks live on her show last year, when he was promoting his movie Crash.

And Ice Cube reiterated Ludacris' opinions, saying, "Maybe she's got a problem with hip-hop. She's had damn rapists, child molesters and lying authors (James Frey) on her show."
