Superman Returns dominated the 33rd Saturn Awards in Los Angeles yesterday, picking up honors including Best Fantasy Film, Best Director for Bryan Singer and Best Actor for Brandon Routh. The superhero blockbuster also won Best Writing for Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty, and Best Music for John Ottman at the annual awards, presented by the Academy Of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.

Clint Eastwood's adaptation of the non-fiction book Flags of Our Fathers concerns the lives of the men in the famous picture of soldiers raising the American flag over Iwo Jima during that historic WWII battle. Battle scenes are intercut with footage of three of the soldiers. Also on DVD: Superman mystery Hollywoodland, horror flick The Grudge 2, memoir-inspired Running With Scissors, and family tale Flicka.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association just announced the winners of the 64th Golden Globe awards. Babel took home the award for best drama, while Dreamgirls won best comedy/musical. Ben Affleck will never play a superhero again, after being "humiliated" wearing a costume in Daredevil three years ago. Speaking at the London premiere of Hollywoodland, which sees Affleck playing TV Superman actor George Reeves, the actor admits he hates wearing tight lycra.

Oliver Stone's gripping 9/11 drama World Trade Center was named Best Film in the first major awards show of the 2006/2007 season, beating out Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest at the Hollywood Awards Sunday night. The night's big award was voted for by online film fans.

* Russell Crowe and Christian Slater are to team up in a remake of 1957 western 3:10 To Yuma. Tom Cruise was initially on board to star in the project, which will be director James Mangold's first film since Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line. The original film starred Glenn Ford.
