April 30th, 2012 8:54am EDT
The Raven
Actor John Cusack suffered for his art while playing literary legend Edgar Allen Poe in new period thriller The Raven - his director insisted he go home to rest when the film wrapped.

The High Fidelity star admits he became so engrossed in the writer's madness and alcoholism that the project sucked the life out of him on the set in wintery Hungary and Serbia.

He tells WENN, "It sort of felt like we were as far away from the world as we could be in on these cobblestone streets. We were shooting a lot of nights and it felt like I was playing a vampire... I don't know if I was disagreeable...

Interview: Joelle Carter Isn't 'Justified's' Damsel In Distress

February 9th, 2011 3:45pm EST
Joelle Carter
To end our "Countdown to Justified" on a high note, I went to one of the stars. Actress Joelle Carter, who plays Ava Crowder on the FX drama, sat down with me to dish about the second season, the experience of being on the series, and her work on one of my favorite films of all time. Warning: there are spoilers ahead.

In the first season, from the word "go," the character of Ava was in trouble or on the verge of getting into trouble. I always thought she had really bad luck or terrible judgment. Did that ever drive you nuts?

It might be a mixture of the two. I think she's been supp...

John Cusack is embroiled in a war of words with journalists at Fox News after he called for a "satanic death cult" to be set up outside the broadcasting giant's headquarters.

The hot tub machine
On Thursday night I finally went to see “Crazy Heart” since it was still playing at one of my local theaters. While it’s not always the happiest film, it is grounded and real, like you’re actually following the life of a country musician addicted to the rock star lifestyle, despite being past his prime.

Jeff Bridges gives a deep and nuanced performance as the lead character Bad Blake, convincingly portrays a washed up country singer riding on fumes. Blake’s selfish behavior and penchant for the bottle alienate him from other characters in the film, but Bridges’ kind face and sense of hum...

Celebrating The Comedic John Cusack: A Spotlight On His Funniest Roles

November 13th, 2009 10:54am EST
John Cusack
Even though he doesn't make Academy Award winning material, John Cusack certainly knows how to make entertaining films. Since the early 80s, Cusack's awkward boyish charm has been attracting audiences to his comedies.

While some of his movies over the years have been outlandish and goofy from a plot perspective, Cusack's deadpan sense of humor tends to keep them grounded in a way a lot of viewers can relate to.

Cusack's latest role in Roland Emmerich's "2012" veers away from his traditional light hearted fare toward something heavier. Judging from the previews, it looks like a thri...

Couples Retreat
Months of waiting for the horror/comedy "Zombieland" were thankfully not spent in vain. Both hilarious and poignant, this film reminds us that even in the post-apocalyptic world that home and family are what you make them.

Narration by the lead character Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) provides a great deal of humor, especially as he expounds upon his rules of survival in the zombie infested world. These rules make frequent appearance on screen during relevant moments, adding additional laughs.

Woody Harrelson is perfect as Tallahassee, the fearless badass with nothing to lose. He's ...

Pull out your lighter, turn up the volume, and get ready to throw up the horns. This jammin' compilation is my top seven compilation of climactic movie concerts. Why seven? Seven is a nice odd number.

When I first decided to form a list of top movie concerts, I thought having a wealth of film knowledge would help me out. Sitting down to draft the list however, I found myself at a loss for ideas. I couldn't see the forest for the trees, and plots sat jumbled together in my head.

After thinking for a few days and taking a stroll through my neighborhood Blockbuster's going out of bu...

The Best & Worst Of Jack Black

June 23rd, 2009 11:25am EDT
Year One
If only life were so simple as to allow enjoyable Jack Black be noticeably different than awful Jack Black. Perhaps the slightly thinner, slightly less beardy version of him could be the best version of him and the more unshaven and huskier version could be the worst version of him, or vice versa; something, anything, that would allow the audience to know what not to waste their time on.

Yes, if only life were this simple.

Sadly, it's not, otherwise I would not have recently lost 97 minutes of my life to Black's latest film, "Year One". While having its moments coming mainly fro...

Songs like the first single, "I Know," which sounds like it could have come off Rubber Soul, and the empowering, Elton John-like rocker "Do What You Want" boast a bittersweet pop sound, with catchy harmonies and plenty of exuberant vocal hooks, which is no wonder considering the Newport Beach, CA, native, whose mother is two-time world champion pool player Robin Do...
