16 Of Our Favorite Blue Movie Characters, From 'Avatar' To 'X-Men'

August 5th, 2013 8:05pm EDT
Avatar
Last week, director James Cameron promised not one, not two, but three sequels to his hit film Avatar.

Hot off the success of the 2009 film, Cameron revealed that there were plenty more tales to tell about the planet Pandora and its race of blue beings - the Na'vi.

Cameron plans on shooting the three sequels simultaneously, and he's got four new screenwriters on board to help him pen the three stories.

"Building upon the world we created with Avatar has been a rare and incredibly rewarding experience," the director said in a statement. "In writing the new films, I've come to realize that...

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

April 20th, 2009 9:44am EDT
The Soloist
This week is fairly busy at the box office, with seven movies arriving. Four of them are general release, while the other three are limited release. I will be going over "Obsessed," "Earth," "Fighting," "The Soloist," "Tyson," "Mutant Chronicles," and "The Informers."

OBSESSED

Successful asset manager Derek Charles (Idris Elba) has everything a man could want. He just received a promotion at work and he has a happy marriage, but when an obsessed temp in his office (Ali Larter) starts stalking him, his picture-perfect life is placed in serious danger.

"Obsessed" is the first fe...

'Arrested Development' Cast: Where Are They Now?

March 7th, 2009 11:35am EST
Arrested Development
The family that chicken dances together, stays together. With the February 24 announcement that Michael Cera - the lone holdout - had finally signed on for the long-rumored Arrested Development movie, message boards went bonkers for Bluth bananas.

Cera is easily the most successful and visible post-Bluth. With SuperBad, Juno, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and Sundance darling Paper Heart, this kid has perfected the tentatively awkward comedic timing that made you root for the love story of George Michael and his cousin Maeby.

Where have the Bluths been since we last laughed a...

Mega Oscar Diary

February 23rd, 2009 9:22am EST
Sean Penn
Before we get started on the Mega Oscar Diary, let's go to a few random ramblings from the cadre of pre-shows around the dial:

-Philip Seymour Hoffman's hat probably came with a matching set of fingerless gloves.

-Those who were unable to see the Los Angeles CW affiliate's pre-show missed this exchange.

-The CW's Female Host: What is the role you'd love to do next. If you could do anything following 'The Wrestler' what would it be?

-Mickey Rourke: (Slowly eyes her up from head to toe with a knowing smile and walks off.)

-I know a lot of people care about fashion, ...

2009 Oscar Predictions: Who Should Win & Who Will Win

February 20th, 2009 10:42am EST
Oscars
After months of speculation, it's finally time to man up and throw down with some hardcore Oscar predictions. But before we tell you who will and should win the Oscar on Sunday night, let's address the whole secrecy notion surrounding this year's event.

You may not have heard (which is probably part of the point) but the Academy has decided to surround this year's ceremony in mystery. Mainly, they've refused to reveal who will be presenting Oscars this year and have gone so far as to forbid its presenters from appearing on the red carpet. Why? Because they think fashionistas will b...

An Inside Look At 'Family Guy' & 'American Dad'

July 31st, 2008 3:03pm EDT
Family Guy
For fans of Seth MacFarlane and his irreverent, hilarious cartoon shows, the San Diego Comic Con was an exciting place to be on Friday, July 25. "American Dad" and "Family Guy" gave previews of their exciting new seasons back to back, with most of the cast and writers in attendance.

MacFarlane was notably the center of most of the questions and attention, but he did remind the audience at one point that he is not the only writer on the shows. This sort of humility was surprising in the otherwise cheeky and pompous comedian, but nevertheless he was very sincere. He has recently used hi...

Following 'Pan's Labyrinth,' 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army' Regresses From Best to Worst For Guillermo del Toro

July 11th, 2008 2:22pm EDT
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
(Hollywoodchicago) – Hellboy is plugged as the world’s brawniest, kitten-loving superhero. While that paradox is supposed to be both funny and action packed, “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” from famed writer and director Guillermo del Toro falls flat on the funny front and instead winds up on the funny farm.

Amid a superhero-laden 2008 with true blockbusters including “The Dark Knight” (opening on July 18, 2008), “Iron Man,” “Hancock,” “The Incredible Hulk” and “Punisher: War Zone” (opening on Dec. 5, 2008), “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” had just as much potential but reveals only semi-b...

NYC Comic Con
Fellow Starpulse writer Michael Ryan may have lost his Comic Con virginity in New York City earlier this month, but mine was officially taken at age 10 when I attended my first con. This world of geekdom that so frightens the mainstream public is slowly being translated into "normal," and the attendance of celebrities, big publishing houses, and large studios at the Con gained the notice of the every day person who doesn't know Hal Jordan from Alan Scott. I, along with my photographer friend Lylianne, frolicked among my people for a fun-filled weekend.

Upcoming Comic Book Films Worth Checking Out, Part 2

Hellboy II: The Golden Army
"Hellboy II: The Golden Army" (July 11)

This is a sequel to the first "Hellboy" and is based off an enormously well received series created by Dark Horse Comics. Hellboy is the greatest supernatural detective and blends many aspects of classical horror and magic with a uniquely dry sense of humor.

The first movie was moderately popular, and the DVD sales were positive enough that a sequel was given the green light. It will be directed again by Guillermo del Toro, and star Ron Perlman as Hellboy, Selma Blair as Liz, and Doug Jones as Abe Sapien.

"Hellboy" has always been a f...
