Gina Carano On A Kickass Fight Scene With Rihanna: 'That Would Be Hot'

May 3rd, 2012 10:28am EDT
Gina Carano
Pop star Rihanna has been challenged to a girl fight by mixed martial artist stuntwoman-turned-action star Gina Carano.

The "Haywire" star is close to signing on for the latest "Fast & the Furious" movie and she can only hope that rumors suggesting Rihanna will play the film's bad girl are true.

Insiders suggest the R&B superstar is slated to join Luke Evans as the fast-paced action sequel's villains, and Carano can't wait for a potential "kickass fight scene" with the hitmaker.

The mixed martial arts champ tells Eonline.com, "I would love to see me and Rihanna go at it. That would be ho...

Beauty is nothing new for a leading lady, but add a healthy dose of lethal to the mix and you’ve got uniquely killer combination. With her equally exquisite loveliness and fast moving fists, former MMA fighter Gina Carano has both qualities in spades – so much so that famed director Steven Soderbergh cast her as the striking lead in his new film. Hitting Blu-ray on May 1 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment, "Haywire" has Carano playing a black-ops agent double-crossed and looking for a little vengeance. We’re celebrating Soderbergh’s return to his roots with a cool Blu-ray review, but firs...

Antonio Banderas' $10,000 Fake 'Haywire' Beard

April 20th, 2012 11:42am EDT
Haywire
Antonio Banderas had a $10,000 false beard made for a movie role after shaving his facial hair off before shooting was complete.

The usually clean-shaven actor sported a bushy growth for Steven Soderbergh's 2011 action thriller Haywire and shaved it off when filming wrapped.

He was later left stunned when the director told him there were three new scenes to shoot - so the special effects crew designed a pricey fake beard for the actor to wear.

Banderas tells Total Film, "Steven met me in New York when I was doing a workshop for a musical, Zorba The Greek. I was trying out a beard for ...

Why Women Love Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum
Channing Tatum is the definition of eye candy. Just in time for Valentine's Day the gorgeous actor stars in the upcoming romantic film "The Vow" opposite Rachel McAdams (in theaters Feb. 10). He plays a man who tries to win back his new bride's heart after she loses her memory in a tragic car accident. Sounds very romantic, doesn't it?

The actor has been on our radar for a while. First, he showed off his incredible abs in Abercrombie & Fitch catalogs and modeled for famous brands such as Nautica, Gap, Aeropostale, Emporio Armani, and American Eagle.

After roles in "Coa...

Carano Is Strong AND Sexy in Soderbergh's 'Haywire'

January 23rd, 2012 6:54am EST
Carano in Haywire
Hollywood needs more action heroines like Mallory Kane. The protagonist in Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller “Haywire” is strong and sexy like Lisbeth Salander, except she doesn’t have to show any skin to prove it. Portrayed by MMA fighter Gina Carano, Kane has the cunning of Jason Bourne combined with the fighting skills of Jackie Chan.

What really separates Kane from her sisters in the genre though, is her lack of emotional attachment. This isn’t to say that she doesn’t care about anyone, because she does love her father. However Kane doesn’t let her emotions cloud her judgment, i...

Review: 'Haywire' Apt Title For Shaky Action Flick

January 20th, 2012 11:00am EST
Haywire
Haywire is an apt title for a film that comes across more as a work in progress than a finished product.

In its promotional spots, the flick seems like another of the tried-and-true "action hero goes on a rampage to right a wrong" films, and there's nothing wrong with that. Many enjoyable movies have come out of that mold. But Haywire bills itself as having "reinvited the espionage thriller" in its production notes. It doesn't just want to be a popcorn flick, but also something more mysterious, and it doesn't succeed in either category.

Mixed martial artist and former American Gl...

Gina Carano Had A Black Eye When She Met 'Haywire' Director

January 19th, 2012 8:50am EST
Haywire
Mixed martial arts pin-up Gina Carano was not at her best when she first met moviemaker Steven Soderbergh about the lead role in his new movie "Haywire" because she had just been at the wrong end of a pounding in the ring.

The director requested a meeting with the fighter and it took place shortly after her first MMA defeat.

Carano explains, "I had a black eye. I got punched above my eyebrow and the bruise was coming down into my eye... and my agent called me and he said, 'There's a director that would love to meet you.' I was like, 'I don't think you really want me to meet anybody right ...

Review: Steven Soderbergh's 'Haywire' A Welcome Return To The Fabulous Films Of His Past

January 17th, 2012 11:00am EST
Haywire photo
I’ll come clean - I’m more of an early Steven Soderbergh film fan. "Sex, lies, and videotape" was a stunning five-star debut, "Kafka" a fantastically strange experience and "King of the Hill" a nostalgic favorite. But it was his fourth film, the highly underrated masterwork "The Underneath," where the director not only showed some cinematic savvy, but also began to play with what would eventually become (for better or worse!) a Soderbergh staple – playing with time. Over the years it has had varying degrees of effectiveness on his work including adding charm to the Clooney fest "Out of Si...

Trailer Talk: This Week
I felt incredibly silly last week when I was supposed to see Mark Wahlberg’s “Contraband.”  I showed up at the wrong theater, and ended up missing my screening.  From what I’ve heard from my colleagues though, I didn’t miss anything fantastic.  One of them compared it in quality to last year’s remake “The Mechanic,” better than expected, but nothing special.

Hitting the box office this week: the Kate Beckinsale vampire action flick “Underworld: Awakening,” the Steven Soderbergh spy thriller “Haywire,” the Ralph Fiennes helmed Shakespeare adaptation “Coriolanus,” the World War II fighte...

Most Anticipated Movies of 2012
If you’re family is like mine, you probably got one for Christmas. I have an aunt who has given on to me every year since I was seven. Each time I open the wrapping paper and feign surprise, as if my present could have been anything else. The first few times she gave me this turd of a gift, I hung it dutifully on my wall for the entire year. Each time I looked at it, I would wonder how Chocolate Labradors or Monster Trucks define me as a person (News Flash: They don’t). Now, as soon as she leaves the room, I throw my gift right in the trash without even a modicum of guilt. Still don’t know ...

Gina Carano Called Channing Tatum The 'P' Word

January 11th, 2012 9:27am EST
Haywire
Channing Tatum had no problems attacking "sweet" mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano for a violent scene in their new all-action movie "Haywire" after she called him a "p**sy."

The "G.I. Joe" star admits he was fiercely intimidated by Carano because he has been a longtime fan, and he struggled to grapple with her authentically for an opening scene in the film when her rogue agent character beats him up - until she took charge of the situation.

Tatum explains, "It comes time to actually have to smash a bottle on her face and she's sitting across from me, and I'm like, 'I can't do this'....
