'Battleship' Posts Disappointing Weekend, 'Avengers' Jumps To 4th Highest Gross Of All-Time
On Friday we forecasted that Battleship had no chance beating The Avengers over the weekend, but we had no idea the board game-turned-movie would debut so low.
Expected to make around $40 million its first three days, Battleship could only muster $25 million. A $209 million production budget and sizeable market spend means the film has some work to do if it doesn't want to be a total loss.
Meanwhile, Avengers continues to dominate the box office here in the United States and across the world. Domestically the film took in another $55 million, just over estimates. That puts its US total at...

Luckily, the Atlanta police arrived in time to stop the blaze with only some damage to backlot facades - Perry can get back in his dress as soon he wants. However, this reminds us of other fires that damaged legendary Hollywood studios.
2008 saw Universal Studios' worst fire, taking 12 hours to put out and damaging many of the classic backlots (including Courthouse Square from Back to the Future) and the original King Kong ride. Reconstruction included the new King Kong 360 attraction and ...

The MTV Movie Awards have their finger on the pulse of 2011/2012 cinema with tons of nominations for The Hunger Games, Bridesmaids and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2. If they’re really current, Hunger Games will sweep but there are a few interesting surprises here too.
The Help is a nominee for best picture. Maybe it’ll be the dark horse winner and make up for losing the Oscar? Only if Hunger Games and Bridesmaids split the vote. It’s interesting that MTV acknowledges the popular historical drama, perhaps doing its part for civil rights education.
For best male performance, he...
