Best of 2011 - Jason Coleman's Top Ten Films

December 30th, 2011 3:20pm EST
The Skin I Live In Photo
2011’s crop of movies had its fare share of interesting ups and downs. On the down side, it’s a year of movies with a ton of potential that for, one reason or another, ended up disappointing due to various bad elements. There were actor/director re-teaming’s brought down by bad casting (Jessica Chastain, terrific in "The Help," proved totally out of place in the Michael Shannon/Jeff Nichols flick "Take Shelter") and annoying characters (wish they could just excise Carey Mulligan’s annoying sister from the Steve McQueen/Michael Fassbender flick "Shame" – and leave the rest!), not to mentio...

Eric Bana Endured Minus 29 Degrees Filming 'Hanna,' Feared Hypothermia

April 12th, 2011 9:14am EDT
Eric Bana
Eric Bana feared hypothermia while filming new movie Hanna in freezing Finland.

The Aussie star admits he wasn't used to the big freeze he experienced when he arrived on set for the action thriller - and he only hoped medics would recognise the symptoms of hypothermia before they took hold on him and the rest of the cast.

He tells WENN, "The cold in Finland was something else, but we were well looked after. The funniest thing was we got a memo about how to diagnose hypothermia in your co-worker, because apparently it's easier to diagnose it in someone else rather than yourself.

"One of t...

'Hanna' Usurps 'Arthur' At Weekend Box Office

April 12th, 2011 8:40am EDT
Hanna
Russell Brand has been robbed of a one-two at the top of the box office thanks to a recount of the weekend estimates.

The British funnyman was expected to start the week with family film "Hop" and new comedy "Arthur" at number one and number two, respectively, but he has been upset by a teenage assassin.

Irish actress Saoirse Ronan's "Hanna" has leapfrogged Arthur for the number two spot on the countdown, behind Hop.

The official figures show "Hanna" has a revised $12.4 million opening take - $200,000 more than Brand's remake.

Arthur
Russell Brand is celebrating a double victory on the box office chart - his family film "Hop" and comedy remake "Arthur" dominate the top two spots in the new countdown.

The Easter-themed movie, in which the British funnyman voices a bunny, took another $21.7 million in its second week at number one, boosting its 10-day total to $68.2 million.

Arthur, which also stars Helen Mirren and Jennifer Garner, opened at two with $12.6 million.

Top Ten Movie 'Bad Kids' – Part Two

April 7th, 2011 10:00am EDT

All praise "Hanna" (hitting theaters from Focus Features on April 8!) – she does make a mean P&J 'fist' sandwich with the crusts cut off, doesn’t she? So kiddies, back for Part Two of our malcontent movie munchkins list? Well, if Part One didn’t send you home crying to mommy, then check out our final five feisty fiends that give Romper Room a whole new meaning!

5. Young Michael Myers from "Halloween" 1978

Everyone knows the man, the myth, the Shatner mask, but it’s frankly the inner demented child that has me freaked. The lethal task of donning a Halloween mask, collecting a ve...

Top Ten Movie 'Bad Kids' - Part One

April 6th, 2011 10:00am EDT
hanna picture
In light of the five-star film "Hanna" from Focus Features hitting theaters April 8, Starpulse.com felt that movie kids that kick ass just weren’t getting their due. So we decided to make a list of some seriously bad babes (not in Toyland anymore!) that bother way beyond their youthful years. Yes, "Hanna" is herself a teen, but for those minors with moxie our list is going to encompass all of you – youngsters of all ages who made their movie impression with everything from scares to sass. So to the tots that take life, adolescence with attitude and just plain nasty brats in need of a sp...

Review: 'Hanna' A Five Star Sight To Be Seen

April 5th, 2011 7:00am EDT

I remember seeing the trailer for "Hanna" and definitely being intrigued – action and intensity with a pinch innocence. Though upon expressing my reaction to others, a strange and very resounding 'looks bad' vibe seemed to come down the pike. After seeing the film such an opinion would be a crying shame, as "Hanna" is hands down one of the most touching, funny and downright kinetic films of 2011 – a five star sight to be seen.

The film follows young teenage girl Hanna (Lovely Bones alum Saoirse Ronan), who lives with her rough and tumble widowed father Erik (Original movie Hulk Eric Bana...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Your Highness,' 'Hanna,' & More

April 4th, 2011 10:00am EDT
Your Highness
Last week I didn’t have the opportunity to see any new films, but I plan to make up for it by watching two movies coming out this week. I’ll be attending screenings of “Arthur,” the Russell Brand remake of Dudley Moore classic, and “Your Highness,” the fantasy comedy directed by David Gordon Green.

In addition to these goofy pictures, you’ll have the chance to catch the action thriller “Hanna,” the nature documentary “Born to Be Wild,” the inspirational tale “Soul Surfer,” the gritty Western “Meek’s Cutoff,” and the romantic comedy “Ceremony.”

YOUR HIGHNESS

When his bride is kidnap...
