Five Non-Traditional Christmas Movies

12/13/2010 11:18am EST
Every Christmas I face the same question: how many times can I watch the same old batch of Christmas movies before I get tired of them?  Answer: three.  To that end, I've compiled a list of five non-traditional Christmas movies for you to turn to when you get tired of TBS's 24-hour marathon of "A Christmas Story."

5 - Die Hard (1988)

Outside of “A Christmas Story,” “Die Hard” is my go-to Christmas movie.  “But ‘Die Hard’ is an action movie!” you might say, and you’d be correct.  But “Die Hard” is special, because it’s an action movie set during Christmas.  “Die Hard,” starring Bruce Wil...

Is Chris Massoglia The Next Zac Efron?

9/13/2010 2:00pm EDT
Chris Massoglia
Chris Massoglia is quickly making a name for himself (it's pronounced muh-SO-lee-uh), with a big break in Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant and an upcoming role in The Hole. So what's keeping him from becoming the next Zac Efron?

"I can't sing, so... I don't know if I will be doing any musicals," says Massoglia with a laugh.

All kidding aside, The Hole director Joe Dante has shown a knack for finding young talent - casting a 16 year-old Kirsten Dunst in Small Soldiers, a pre-Goonies Corey Feldmen for Gremlins, and Ethan Hawke in 1985's Explorers. Dante says that Chris stood out t...

Writer's Viewpoint: Certain Films Lose Their Allure As We Age

7/28/2008 8:45am EDT
I witnessed the masterpiece that is "The Dark Knight" over the weekend. We do not need to rehash why this film is so good; every perceivable media outlet has already done that. For me, one notable side effect of the film's greatness was to revisit "Batman" from 1989. Unfortunately, the years have not been kind to Tim Burton's vision of Batman, to the point where the film comes off almost campy. This is surprising considering that in 1989 the film was marketed as an answer to fans that complained about the tongue-in-cheek attitude of the 1960's television series.

"The Dark Knight" made...

Check Under Your Bed & In Your Pillowcase: Evil Little Film Creatures

2/27/2008 1:50pm EST
Scary movies serve their purpose, don’t they? Jason Voorhees has been terrifying people for decades now and so have Freddy Krueger and a vast multitude of other larger-than-life monsters. But many are a little more freaked out by the little guys. You know, the things that could crawl into your bed or hide in your hampers. The ankle biters on this list could get you when you least suspect it.

These guys may have known how to have a good time but they certainly got rowdy, didn’t they? Spawned from slimy cocoons if the explicit rules for taking care of Mogwai are not adhered to...
