'Dallas Buyers Club,' 'Gravity' & '12 Years A Slave' Win Big At
Dallas Buyers Club and Gravity were the toast of the 2014 Oscars on Sunday, but it was 12 Years a Slave which was named Best Picture on Hollywood's biggest night.

The Steve McQueen slave drama was a triple threat, also scoring Best Supporting Actress for Lupita Nyong'o and Best Adapted Screenplay for John Ridley.

AIDS drama Dallas Buyers Club served up a double win in the male acting categories with Matthew McConaughey earning his first Oscar for Best Actor and Jared Leto claiming Best Supporting Actor, while Cate Blanchett took home the Best Actress title for her star turn in Woody Allen...

Sandra Bullock Is Red Carpet Gorgeous At The Oscars
Sandra Bullock's hopes of winning Oscar gold for her role in "Gravity" may have been dashed after Cate Blanchett's win for Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine, but despite her own loss, her film was the night's biggest winner with seven awards in all.

The actress was simple and elegant on the red carpet prior to the show, wearing a deep blue Alexander McQueen gown.

"Gravity" landed Oscars for Best Director (Alfonso Cuaron), Film Editing, Cinematography, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects and Original Score.

'Gravity', 'American Hustle' & '12 Years A Slave' Among Oscar Fr
This year's Best Picture Oscar winner may well have to defy "Gravity" to take home the coveted trophy. Alfonso Cuaron's groundbreaking interstellar thriller leads a pack of nine movies vying for the top prize on Sunday in Los Angeles.

The film was one of 2013's biggest blockbusters, earning over $700 million dollars at the box office. The movie centers on a routine spacewalk that goes wrong. After their shuttle is destroyed, a brilliant engineer (Sandra Bullock) and veteran astronaut (George Clooney) are abandoned in space, tethered to nothing but each other as they try to get back home a...

Oscar Predictions: Does 'Gravity' Carry Enough Weight?
For the most part, the major categories at the Oscars are fairly easy to predict. But some years there are upset winners (‘Shakespeare in Love,’ Marcia Gay Harden, Juliette Binoche, Adrien Brody, to name a few) that remind us that anything can happen.

This year is a little different. Who remembers a year where the race for Best Picture is down to three films, two of which are so close that they tied at the Producers’ Guild? It seems like there are some definite locks this year (Hello, Cate Blanchett) but you read it here: Nothing is guaranteed. Nothing.

That said, here are the most likely...

Oscar Voter Calls Sandra Bullock 'Weak Link' In Revealed Ballot

An anonymous Oscar voter has had his or her ballot revealed, and they had some unflattering things to say about several nominees.

The ballot is one of a handful The Hollywood Reporter will be revealing leading up to the Oscars on Sunday night. This particular ballot is from "a longtime member of the Academy's 377-member directors branch."

The director picks American Hustle as Best Picture and says making 12 Years a Slave would require courage, "if you made it in Mississippi in 1930." The director then snubs Gravity's Alfonso Cuaron for Best Director, writing, "I have seen things at the pl...

Sandra Bullock Will Earn Over $70 Million From 'Gravity'

Sandra Bullock
A smart contract has Sandra Bullock cashing in.

The Hollywood Reporter cites sources who claim popular actress negotiated a 15 percent cut of Warner Bros.' take from Gravity on top of her $20 million fee. The film was worldwide hit and made over $700 million at the box office.

Hollywood Reporter's calculations have Bullock pocketing $70 million - and that's their low estimate. She stands to make even more with the home release and television airings.

It stands to reason that Bullock's lucrative contract is extremely rare. THR reports most actors and actresses have contract stipulations t...

'Gravity' And '12 Years A Slave' Share Improbable Tie At PGA Awards

12 Years A Slave
After correctly predicting the Best Picture winner at the Oscars 17 times in the last 24 years, the Producers Guild Awards named two films for its best movie of the year.

Over the last six years, the film to win the Darryl F. Zanuck award also won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. This year, Gravity and 12 Years A Slave tied for the award, something that has never happened in the history of the awards show.

One of the reasons for the improbability of the tie is the fact that PGA Awards votes with a preferential ballot, meaning voters mark first, second, third, and so on - not just their...

The Golden Globe nominations are tomorrow morning. The Globes tend to nominate big films and big actors. Case in point, the Globes nominated The Tourist. So, smaller actors in smaller films are likely to get lost. This is not the awards show for Fruitvale Station. Some people were surprised by The Butler’s presence here, but I don’t see any surprises from them. Movies like Gravity and Her (which are frontrunners for a Best Picture nomination) aren’t large cast films, and wouldn’t get the Ensemble nomination over The Butler. The big surprise is Dallas Buyers Club, which is a relatively small cast, and did manage an Ensemble nomination. That could go a long way in getting DBC to a Best Picture nomination. Also, Daniel Bruhl is back in the race with a Supporting Actor nomination for Rush.

Kudos to the SAG members for nominating James Gandolfini for E...

The Hunger Games is tracking to be the biggest opening in November, ever. Simply put, it is tracking to do better than the original, which already had a stunning 152.5M opening weekend in March 2012. Even if it matched the opening of the original, it would set a new opening weekend record for November. So, this is a pretty epic weekend. Catching Fire has a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, pleasing critics across the board. Midnight shows should be huge, and will help to push Catching Fire to new heights.

With no real direct competition, and good word of mouth, Thor is still “the movie to see” this weekend. It will likely dip in half, and still do far more than everything else in theatres. It will have to contend with the juggernaut that is The Hunger Games next week, so it’s good that it is mopping up as much money as it can right now.

It’s almost an unprecedented move. A summer blockbuster is opening in November. The good news is that the Top 10 films of November (All Time) are almost entirely franchise films. However, most of those are Harry Potter or Twilight films. There really isn’t a superhero sequel in November, ever. That being said, five films have managed to gross over 100M on their opening November weekends. Thor has already been doing some great overseas business, and managed some good reviews. The original opened to 65M, and it’s safe to say the sequel will bea...

Box Office Predictions: 'Ender's Game' or Will 'Free Birds' Fly?

My gut instinct is that Enders Game is going to disappoint this weekend. Adobe started tracking social media responses to upcoming films, and singled Enders Game out as one of the films most likely to crash and burn this season. I’m going to lowball this, but other prognosticators think this can do over 30M.

2) Free Birds- 22M Weekend, 22M Total

I see a lot of low numbers for Free Birds, but the marketplace is very largely adult right now. Even Enders Game doesn’t feel like a kids movie, so I don’t know if families will flock to it or not. November...

Entering into a rather serious Top 10 is Bad Grandpa, which is looking to draw in an underserved comedy audience. Specifically, the young male comedy audience. This strategy has worked well for the Jackass films in the past. Jackass 3D opened to 50M, Jackass 2 did 29M. Bad Grandpa is tracking well, and will dominate due to a lack of direct competition.

2) Carrie- 18M Weekend, 18M Total

The problem with Carrie is that it is a remake. And they’ve tried to bring Carrie back before (anyone remember Carrie 2?) and it hasn’t worked out well for anyone.
