Jack Nicholson's Oscar-winning turn in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest has been voted the greatest movie performance of all time.

The Hollywood veteran's role as R.P. McMurphy, a criminal faking insanity to serve his jail sentence in a mental hospital, came top in a poll by Total Film magazine.

Robert De Niro's acclaimed role as boxer Jake La Motta in 1980's Raging Bull was runner-up, and Daniel Day-Lewis' Oscar-winning portrayal of a turn-of-the-century oil baron in There Will Be Blood came third.

Robert De Niro wants to break the record for the number of Oscars handed to one actor - so he can give each of his five children a statuette.

The Hollywood icon is the proud recipient of two Academy Awards, for Best Actor in 1980's Raging Bull and for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 1974's The Godfather: Part II.

He's been shortlisted a further four times, but the Goodfellas star hasn't given up hope of winning a record-breaking five Oscars so he can pass them down to his kids.

Al Pacino Steps In For Pal Robert De Niro
Al Pacino has signed on to fill the shoes of fellow Hollywood legend Robert De Niro in forthcoming film Son Of No One. De Niro was originally cast to co-star in the police thriller - about a young cop with a family secret assigned to work in his old neighborhood - but he dropped out of the project unexpectedly.

However, Pacino has stepped up to save the project and replace his The Godfather Part II co-star De Niro, while Channing Tatum, Terrence Howard, Ray Liotta and Katie Holmes are also in talks to join the cast, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
