Comedy legend Chevy Chase has hinted he's set to return to the big screen in one of his most famous movie roles - playing Fletch in a forthcoming sequel.

The Office star John Krasinki is the hot favorite to play Irwin 'Fletch' Fletcher in a new adaptation of Gregory McDonald's series of novels. A number of actors have been considered as successors to Chevy Chase - who played Fletch in two 1980s films - including Jason Lee, Ryan Reynolds and most recently Joshua Jackson.

Former Dawson's Creek actor Joshua Jackson has reportedly beaten some of Hollywood's biggest names to land the title role in Fletch Won. Jackson will play investigative reporter Irwin 'Fletch' Fletcher, a part made famous by Chevy Chase in the 1985 comedy Fletch and its 1989 follow-up Fletch Lives, according to website IESB.net.

Zach Braff is the latest big name to pull out of upcoming Fletch sequel, Fletch Won, after being offered the chance to develop his own movie. Braff joins celebrated director Kevin Smith, who also walked away from the project.

Zach Braff is to step into comedy legend Chevy Chase's shoes and star in a new prequel of the 1980s movie franchise Fletch. Bill Lawrence, the creator of TV comedy Scrubs, has been signed up by Harvey and Bob Weinstein to adapt author Gregory McDonald's 1985 novel "Fletch Won" and direct the movie.
