Where the Wild Things Are - Buy it

Spike Jonze's masterpiece feels like a Jonze movie (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) in that it blurs the line between reality and fiction. The beasts - created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop - have to be seen to be believed. Max Records stars as the rebellious young Max, backed by a phenomenal supporting cast including the voice talents of James Gandolfini and Catherine O'Hara. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O supplies one of the best soundtracks of the year, freshly snubbed...

Animated Films Adults Can Enjoy

Animated Films Adults Can Enjoy
The movie industry is always looking for the right audiences to sell to, and no age bracket is more lucrative to them than the kiddies. The children can consistently bring in big numbers if they're interested enough to beg their parents to go, and then they want popcorn and candy and soda and please please pleeeease mommy! Love for movies starts in most people at a young age, and while adults may roll their eyes at "G-Force," they'll reluctantly be dragged by their kids or nieces and nephews to see it. However, not all kids movies have proven to be only for children. Recently "Where the Wil...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - '2012,' 'Pirate Radio' & More

November 9th, 2009 9:52am EST
2012
At some point this week I hope to catch the wacky comedy "The Men Who Stare at Goats." While I have read some bad reviews of the film, I believe my tendency to disagree with the mainstream, could be a wild card for my own appraisal of the movie.

I'm having difficulty believing the collection of George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges could contribute to a horrific film considering I how much appreciate their abilities on screen.

Roland Emmerich destroys the world yet another time this week with his apocalyptic tale "2012." The quirky animation of Wes Anders...

The Best & Worst Children's Books Made Into Films

October 16th, 2009 11:59am EDT
Where The Wild Things
Where The Wild Things Are based on the beloved children's book opens in theaters today. Although some critics say the visuals are spectacular while the script is a little thin, it should draw in massive crowds due to its iconic standing in the children's publishing world.

Children's books made into movies go over much better when viewed in two age brackets: when the audience is comprised of children who have recently read the book, or when the audience is comprised of adults so far removed from childhood that anything resembling their favorite book is romanticized and judged in a less se...
