Famous June Brides: Happily Ever After?

Historically, some married in the month of June to honor Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage. Others did it to time conception so births wouldn't interfere with harvest work. Brides in the 15th century chose to marry in June because it coincided with their "annual bath" - you read right - thus ensuring a relatively sweet-smelling honeymoon.

Centuries later, June has remained the most popular month to wed. In MGM's 1954 Academy Award-winning musical, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers the song "June Bride" trills: "Oh, they say when you marry in June, you're a bride all your life."

Delaware Museum Displays Hollywood Movie Costumes

Glamorous and stylish costumes created for the screen versions of classic novels and worn by such actors as Elizabeth Taylor, Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, Colin Firth, and Ralph Fiennes are now on view at Winterthur Museum & Country Estate in Delaware in "Fashion in Film: Period Costumes for the Screen," through January 7.
