How Ryan Gosling Resurrected The Movie Star

September 14th, 2011 11:00am EDT
gosling
Movie critics, driven to understandable cynicism by the onslaught of unnecessary remakes (there is no reason for another "Footloose") and re-imaginings of every superhero from the Green Lantern to a hammer-wielding Norse god, have declared the movie star extinct.  I think the stellar year actor Ryan Gosling, 30, is having is inspiring proof that the existence of the movie star in this entertainment climate is still possible.

For this lover of pop culture, a movie star is more than someone who makes a lot of films and walks a lot of red carpets.  It’s Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman,” “Th...

Julia Roberts: 'I Want My Kids To Know When I'm P**sed'

August 5th, 2010 8:22am EDT
Julia Roberts
Julia Roberts refuses to have Botox injections in a bid to halt the ageing process - because she wants her young children to see her every facial expression.

The Erin Brockovich star believes her face "tells a story" and she's angry that some women feel pressured by society to resort to the wrinkle-smoothing jabs. And she's adamant she won't have the cosmetic injections - for the sake of her five-year-old twins Hazel and Finn, and Henry, three.

She tells ELLE magazine, "It's unfortunate that we live in such a panicked, dysmorphic society where women don't even give themselves a chance t...

This Week's EW Has The Delicious Dish On Julia Roberts' New Film, 'Eat, Pray, Love'

July 29th, 2010 5:22pm EDT
EW Julia Roberts
An adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir "Eat, Pray, Love" is about to hit theaters, thanks to another intrepid woman: Julia Roberts. In a funny, frank interview, the actress speaks with this week's Entertainment Weekly about her family, her career, and learning how to give peace a chance.

Though she's worked steadily since marrying cinematographer Danny Moder in 2002, Roberts has become known for turning down as many blockbusters as she's starred in, a development that stems from her desire to spend as much time with her family as possible. But the appeal of "Eat, Pray, Love" was too...

Oscar Curse
The latest news about Sandra Bullock's husband, Jesse James, allegedly cheating on her and the recent revelation that Kate Winslet is splitting from her husband, director Sam Mendes, leads us to believe that perhaps their recent Best Actress Oscar wins have something to do with it.

Yes folks, it appears that an 'Oscar Curse' has been running wild in Hollywood for the last decade. The curse appears to have begun in 2001, when Julia Roberts won the award for her performance in "Erin Brockovich". Shortly after her win (although not married to each other) she dumped boyfriend Benjamin Bratt.

The Best & Worst Of Julia Roberts

Mary Reilly
As one of the highest paid actresses in the world, it is no surprise that Julia Roberts has a long and varied career to admire. She started out as a romantic comedy charmer, and she has done several of them even after her vast popularity, but eventually Roberts moved into more dramatic filmmaking and huge box office hits.

She was the first actress to be on the cover of Vogue, and she is undoubtedly considered one of America's Sweethearts, so much so that she actually starred in a movie of the same name! Beautiful, intelligent, well spoken, and hard working, Roberts has been in a numbe...

The Best and Worst of John Travolta

December 4th, 2008 11:43am EST
John Travolta
In recent years, it's become hip to pick on John Travolta for his movie choices. It's strange, considering not many actors can say that they've starred in three truly iconic films (see numbers 1, 3, and 6 on the "best" list). He's also achieved longevity that many actors can only dream of, due in large part to his genuine, "good guy" persona. So, sure, he's made some bad films. Who hasn't? His good movies still outnumber the bad ones.

Since John is putting on the dog in the new animated hit, "Bolt," we thought it would be a good time to take a look at some notable films from Travolta's...

Interview: Comedian Steve Coogan Rocks Sexy Jesus Character in 'Hamlet 2'

Hamlet 2
(HollywoodChicago.com) – Steve Coogan is a British comedy icon. Forging a career from creating an array of characters, though, he’s not as well known in America (except to BBC cultists).

He brings this talent for characterization to the lead role of an American high school drama teacher in the new film “Hamlet 2”. Coogan adds some peculiar quirks to the depiction of the clueless soul who seemingly will do anything to project his dramatic “vision”.

Amy Adams' Characters Use Feminine Grace & Strong Will To Get What They Want

March 13th, 2008 2:01pm EDT
Amy Adams
For years, Hollywood has celebrated a certain type of empowered women - a strong nosed, uber self-confident, in-your-face fighter who is going to take on the establishment using whatever means necessary to get what she wants. The archetype of this character is Erin Brockovich who famously said "They're called boobs, Ed", and screamed her way from a legal secretary to the chief factor in toppling a billion dollar company that was poisoning its customers.

But in the tradition of Melanie Grifiith's Working Girl, Amy Adams has popularized a new type of woman: one who uses her feminine grac...
