10 Unforgettable Movie Dads

June 15th, 2014 8:00am EDT
Darth Vader
They're professional, regal and righteous. They're bumbling, baffling and stubborn. They're murderous, satanic and militaristic. They're movie dads, and memorable ones are hard to find—probably because the more common plotline involves an absent one (Disney, we’re looking at you!). While these ten are truly unforgettable, we’re glad even the non-evil ones aren’t our own. So, this Father’s Day, here's to the big man on the big screen, but more importantly, here’s to all these crazy guys your dad isn’t.

Star Wars was originally based on the old Flash Gordon serials of the 1930s, where weekly installments mov...

The Most Rad Flicks From The 80s

April 5th, 2014 8:00am EDT
Top Gun
The 80s might have been the age of MTV and Heavy Metal, but don’t think that there weren’t some thrilling films rocking at the box office as well. This denim-clad, hairspray overflowing decade birthed the movie blockbuster megafranchise and the teenage angst anthem, selling out theater seats as galactic space emperors and high school heartthrobs sent cinematic shockwaves up our spines.

The movies may not have been as Oscar-worthy as those from ten years earlier. But just like the high top sneakers and parachute pants the defined the decade, these movies were loud, flamboyant, and instantly...

The announcement comes on the heels of the studio's cancellation of the Cartoon Network's "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," animated series, a move that was made because the show aired on the rival network, owned by Time Warner.

Star Wars
With yesterday's unofficial-official Star Wars Day behind us it only seems fitting that such an iconic film series should have its own sequel. After all, the Saga is legendary, having transformed how people watch movies by both pushing forward the technolgies used in filmmaking and in birthing the modern blockbuster.

Two sequels, three prequels, a TV series and an instantly recognizable brand name visible at nearly every retailer in our galaxy, the franchise is still running strong. When's the last time you walked down a Walmart toy aisle without seeing numerous empty pegs where characters...

Can 'Avengers,' 'Dark Knight Rises,' And 'Amazing Spider-Man' Make 2012 The Best Movie Summer Ever?

May 2nd, 2012 2:07pm EDT
The Avengers
The movie industry earned $4.3 billion last summer at the U.S. box office to make it the best summer ever (I thought piracy was killing the industry?) but don't expect the mark to last for long. There's a team of superhero movies coming along, and each one could break records.

The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers look to score over $400 million each and should be boosted with IMAX and 3D premiums. Thus far, The Avengers have already made $218 million overseas. There's also PIXAR's Brave and The Amazing Spider-Man - Pixar is always good for a cash infusion, but we'll have to wait and see ...

George Lucas has lost his court battle with a British designer over the rights to make and sell replica Star Wars helmets.

Andrew Ainsworth made the headgear for the original movies and started selling the Stormtrooper helmets in 2004, to fans who wanted to wear them for fancy dress parties.

The creator of the hugely successful sci-fi series attempted to sue Ainsworth for $20 million after he sold some items in America, but Lucas lost the legal battle in the U.K. because a judge rejected claims the helmets are sculptures.

He hoped to overturn the decision by taking the case to the Sup...
