March 5th, 2012 8:32am EST
Cate Blanchett
Australian actress Cate Blanchett is "too frightened" to undertake cosmetic enhancement and pities women who turn to surgeons to alter their looks.

The 42-year-old Elizabeth star has no desire to roll back the years by going under the knife, and admits she has been turned off surgery after seeing the long-term effects of it.

She tells Fashionetc.com, "There's been a decade or probably more of people doing interventions on their faces and their bodies, and now people are seeing that (in the) long term, it's not so great."

"I'm not sitting on a soapbox telling women what they should and...

June 26th, 2010 4:00pm EDT
Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett donned a hard hat to launch an eco-friendly construction project at her Sydney Theatre Company headquarters in Australia on Friday.

The actress, who is the artistic director of the company, has thrown her support behind the Greening the Wharf initiative, which will see 1,900 solar panels installed in The Wharf Theatre at Sydney's Walsh Bay. The panels will provide 70 per cent of the theatre's electricity requirements - and the Elizabeth star wants more companies to follow their example by investing in green energy alternatives.

The Edge Of Love
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has a long history of awarding actors who portray real people. For example: Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles (Ray), Charlize Theron as Aileen Wuornos (Monster), Hilary Swank as Brandon Teena (Boys Don't Cry), Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin (The Last King Of Scotland), Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II (The Queen), and most recently Sean Penn as Harvey Milk (Milk).

Lesser recognized is the Academy's favor for actors who play literary figures or exist in their spheres. It's quite possible the stars of the recently released The Edge of Love, the st...

Blanchett Shines While 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age' Burns

October 11th, 2007 10:35am EDT
Elizabeth: The Golden Age
It is hard to know what to expect when coming into Elizabeth: The Golden Age, a delayed sequel of a film that 10 years prior had been a heavy player at the Oscars. Back then, the film centered around the performance of Cate Blanchett, who stunned viewers with her complex portrayal of the loose cannon lover who becomes England’s famous virgin monarch. (A Queen and Oscar buzz? Sound familiar? It should! See Oscar Queen Facts at bottom of page.)

Blanchett does a superb job, but this film has a hard time finding its center and its pains dull the effort of a strong cast.

Directo...
