Movie great Lauren Bacall has blasted Tom Cruise in a tribute to his ex-wife Nicole Kidman.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - The Danish director Lars Von Trier said a period of depression has left him unable to work and he has doubts about when he will return to filmmaking.

Newlywed Nicole Kidman is set to star as Mrs. Coulter in "The Golden Compass," the film version of the first of Philip Pullman's bestselling "His Dark Materials" trilogy. Movie-maker Chris Weitz will direct the $150 million production at London's Shepperton Studios this autumn.
