This is my favorite movie of all time. I love the story, and the beautiful scenery, large scale of the epic including the battle, the returning army turning the recruits back, and the sheer scope of both the story and the settings. James

At the height of the cold war, David Lean Movie Maestro made one of the great romantic movies of all time as its subject the Russian Revolution. Filmed on sets in Madrid and with other locations such as Finland, David Lean made the most popular movie MGM made after "Gone With The Wind"
Lean cast Egyptian Omar Sharif as a Russian and the glorious Julie Christie of England as a Russian. Both stars gave career making performances. There is a great scene where Lara ( Christie) sees Zhivago after so many years..the look in her eyes of great love re discovered is amazing and the work of a great screen artists: Lean, Christie and Sharif.

Lean's great film has many unforgettable images, and the one I like so much of the many is the scene after a very bleak winter shot in shades of grey and brown followed by springtime and the screen is filled with a shot of bright yellow daffodils... The movie score is memorable and likely scores of young women today nearing their 40th birtday are named Lara after this movie classic.

Lean always cast his movies quite well and in this film Alec Guiness whom Lean cast many times is outstanding here. Also Rod Steiger.

David Lean was in my estimation one of the top 5 Movie Directors of all time with his
great credits including " Summertime " with Katharine Hepburn, Bill Holden with Guinness in "The Bridge On The River Kwai" and the incomparable "Lawrence of Arabia with Peter O'Toole and again Guiness.
