August 11th, 2014 11:24pm EDT
Divergent
Sunday night's Teen Choice Awards were dominated by actress Shailene Woodley, whose two most recent films, Divergent and "The Fault In Our Stars", were the night's big winners.

The actress picked up a pair of best actress awards, landing the Choice Movie Actress: Drama award for Fault, while taking the Choice Movie Actress: Action/Adventure surfboard trophy for "Divergent."

Both films were also named Choice Movie in their respective categories, while "The Fault In Our Stars" also took the Choice Lip-lock award. Ansel Elgort, Woodley's co-star in both films, landed the Choice Actor: Drama ...

Divergent
"Divergent" stars Shailene Woodley ("The Fault in Our Stars," "The Descendents") and is based on the best-selling young adult series by Veronica Roth.

The film is based in a dystopian future in which society is separated into five different factions based on peoples' personalities.

Tris Prior (Woodley) discovers that she's "Divergent," is warned that she will never fit into one of the five groups, and is forced to hide her true identity or face death.

When Tris uncovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she has to find out why that classification is so dangerous before thousands o...

Box Office Predictions: Will 'Neighbors' Top 'Spider-Man 2'

May 8th, 2014 7:23pm EDT
Box Office Predictions: Will 'Neighbors' Top 'Spider-Man 2'
1) The Amazing Spider-Man 2- 40M Weekend, 155M Total

Spidey should drop a little over 50% this weekend. Neighbors is solid competition, but not major competition. Spidey will remain the top draw this weekend.

2) Neighbors- 35M Weekend, 35M Total

Keeping in mind this is an R rated comedy, with Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, 35M is a really solid opening. This isn’t the Hangover, this is Neighbors. Even with strong reviews, and solid previews, I’m betting this film tops out around 35M. Rogen had This Is The End last year which only managed 20M, so this would be a huge improvement upon that.

Weekend Box Office: 'The Other Woman' Vs 'Captain America'

April 25th, 2014 6:10pm EDT
The Other Woman
1) The Other Woman- 18M Weekend, 18M Total

While not a certified blockbuster, The Other Woman has been tracking well with test audiences and women. Honestly, they’ve been underserved since Valentine’s Day, and Cameron Diaz’s comedy will likely reap the benefits of that. I don’t think it’ll have a huge weekend, but a strong weekend and a first place finish.

2) Captain America 2- 15M Weekend, 224M Total

A week before Spidey swings in, the Captain will continue to make a nice box office impact.

3) Heaven Is For Real- 14M Weekend, 52M Total

I have no reason to believe this feel-good film w...

Box Office Predictions: Will 'Transcendence' Top The Weekend?

Box Office Predictions: Will 'Transcendence' Top The Weekend?
1) Rio 2- 25M Weekend, 77M Weekend

The fact is that animated features rarely dip 50% in their second weekend. Most only dip 35-40%. It’s likely that Rio 2 will attain that 1st place finish that eluded it last weekend, especially since most of the other kids films have left theatres at this point. Only Bears is direct competition, and it isn’t much competition. Unless Transcendence can overcome its awful reviews, Rio 2 looks to win this weekend. Lets face it, it’s Easter, and this is a perfect film to see on Easter Sunday with the kids.

2) Captain America 2- 20M Weekend, 193M Total

Divergent
Divergent, the movie adaptation of Veronica Roth's young adult novel of the same name, has garnered the second biggest opening weekend of the year, raking in a whopping $56 million and nearly burying this weekend's other big debut, Muppets Most Wanted.

Disney's "The Muppets" sequel opened to a weak $16.5 million in ticket sales, a little more than half what its 2011 predecessor pulled in.

The animated "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" dropped to third after a second place debut two weeks ago and taking the top spot last week, taking in $11.7 million.

"300: Rise of an Empire," last week's number-tw...

Review: 'Divergent' Is A 'Hunger Games' Light, But Still Entertains

March 21st, 2014 3:27pm EDT
Divergent
'Divergent,' directed by Neil Burger, takes us to the city of Chicago 100 years in the future, where 'conformity' is all the rage - well actually, it's the law.

After a devastating war, people are divided into five factions. Amity: they're the folks that like to plant vegetables and dress like 60's hippies. The Erudites: a group that Mark Zuckerburg and Steve Jobs would definitely belong to. The Candor - Think about the most obnoxious person you know; the one who'll let you know that your new haircut sucks and you look like you put on a few pounds. Then there's Abnegation, who run the gove...

Box Office Predictions: 'Divergent' Set To Win Weekend Over 'Muppets'

Box Office Predictions: 'Divergent' Set To Win Weekend Over 'Mup
1) Divergent- 60M Weekend, 60M Total

Sure, it seems low, given how massive The Hunger Games was. But Divergent isn’t The Hunger Games, and it hasn’t been getting as good of reviews. I still feel like I’m lowballing it a tad, but almost every other figure I’ve seen for Divergent is below mine. I think the reviews are factoring in, and people don’t see any growth over the weekend, rather the potential for drops.

2) Muppets Most Wanted- 22M Weekend, 24M Total

Counter-programming. The last Muppets did well over Thanksgiving weekend, so the hope is that the sequel will do similar business. Ho...

'Scandal' Star Tony Goldwyn Gets 'Divergent'
If there were a Mount Rushmore of actors, Tony Goldwyn would be on it.

The impressively talented actor-director is not only hitting home runs this season as President Fitzgerald "Fitz" Grant on ABC's most popular series Scandal, but is also about to be seen in the highly anticipated feature film Divergent. And he's also adding TV production to his resume with the upcoming series The Divide. If there's something that he can't do exceedingly well, we haven't found it yet. BFTV checked in with one of our top five actors of all-time on Monday.

In Divergent, based on the young adult book of th...

Actress Maggie Q, who plays Tori in this week's theatrical release Divergent, looked all sorts of torrid on the carpet at the film's Los Angeles premiere Tuesday night, going commando in a sexy black dress that revealed plenty of leg.

The actress joined co-stars Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney and Theo James at the Regency Bruin Theatre for the big event.

"Divergent," based on Veronica Roth's teen novel of the same name, is set in a future world where everyone is segregated into factions based on their personalities, when one comes along who doesn't fit any classification.

Shailene Woodley: 'Jennifer Lawrence Gave Me Beautiful Advice For 'Divergent' Role'

July 19th, 2013 10:11am EDT
Shailene Woodley
Shailene Woodley made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend for the film Divergent. Based on the book by Veronica Roth, the film is set in a future society where people are divided into groups based on five single traits. Roth has written two sequel books so there’s already a franchise if audiences respond.

In a press conference at Comic-Con, Woodley spoke about vying for a role in the Hunger Games series, and the advice she got from the star who ultimately won that role, Jennifer Lawrence.

“I did audition for Hunger Games back in the day and Jen Lawrence actually helped me w...
