Total Recall And 8 Other 90s Film Remakes

August 3rd, 2012 1:07pm EDT
Total Recall
Think it's too early to remake films from the 1990s? Think again. Total Recall, the sci-fi action hit from 1990, has the spotlight once again as its remake hits theaters this weekend. In honor of the occasion we took a look at films from the 1990s that have been repurposed - we use that word, because half of these films are ideas lifted from other countries.

Bangkok Dangerous: Nicolas Cage's production company purchased the right to a remake of a 1999 Thai shoot-em-up of the same name. Basically, Cage goes to Bangkok and kills a lot of people. The film was thrashed in reviews, but it sti...

In "Dinner For Schmucks," an ambitious executive accepts an invitation from his boss to attend a dinner party where high-powered professionals make fun of unsuspecting dimwits.

Upwardly mobile executive Tim (Paul Rudd) has just landed his company an extremely wealthy Swiss client when his boss, Lance (Bruce Greenwood), invites him to an exclusive, yet unusually mean-spirited dinner party where each of the high-powered executives brings a guest to make fun of. 'Inception' Beats 'Dinner For Schmucks'

August 2nd, 2010 8:16am EDT
Inception
Leonardo DiCaprio's mind-bending movie "Inception" has scored another week at the top of the box office after taking an extra $27.5 million in its third week of release.

The dream thriller's latest haul takes its current box office total to $193.3 million. It was enough to keep Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd's new comedy "Dinner for Schmucks" from the top spot, opening in second with $23.3 million.

Angelina Jolie's action epic "Salt" slips one place to number three after failing to topple "Inception" last week, while the animated "Despicable Me," which also stars Carrell, is in fourth positi...

July 29th, 2010 8:55am EDT
Steve Carell
Steve Carell is preparing to take a bite out of Hollywood - the funnyman will star and produce upcoming comedy "Raised By Wolfs."

The comedian confirmed last month he would not be returning for the next season of hit show "The Office" as embarrassing boss Michael Scott in order to spend more time with his family.

But the star's movie career continues to blossom and he's signed a deal with DreamWorks studios to tackle the Les Firestein film on the big screen.

Movie bosses have yet to release plot details, reports Daily Variety.

2010 Summer Movies Are Bad, But Past Years Have Been Worse (Video)

July 28th, 2010 11:15am EDT
Inception
As usual, the lineup for summer movies this year was star-studded and full of sequels. However, most of them have been critically panned and - even worse - they are not racking up ticket sales. Still, there have been far worse summer selections.

In an interesting pattern, it seems every 9 years there is a "stinker" summer movie slate. In 2001, our summer selections looked like this: A Knight's Tale, Pearl Harbor, Scary Movie 2, Planet of the Apes, The Mummy Returns, Swordfish, Dr. Dolittle 2, Rush Hour 2, Tomb Raider, Jurassic Park III, and Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Yikes!

Go 9 years pr...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'Dinner for Schmucks,' 'Charlie St. Cloud,' & More

July 26th, 2010 9:28am EDT
Dinner for Schmucks
The action thriller “Salt” turned out to be more complex than I initially thought. Promotional material made the film seem like it would be a run-of-the-mill rogue spy on the run story. Without spoiling the details, there is additional intrigue surrounding CIA agent Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie), and the accusation that she’s a Russian mole. Thankfully the filmmakers don’t reveal her motivations too early on, keeping them close to the chest until the final act.

Jolie convincingly plays a strong female heroine, however as an actress I don’t feel like she adds much flavor to the role itsel...

Ron Livingston Crashes Carell And Rudd's 'Dinner For Schmucks'

April 17th, 2010 10:00am EDT
Ron Livingston
Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and Zach Galifianakis star in this summer’s comedy Dinner for Schmucks. That’s enough funny for three movies, so their costar knows his place. Ron Livingston sees his job as setting up the comedians.

“I am one of the hosts of the dinner,” Livingston said. “I sort of play a douchebag antagonist who’s got it out for Paul Rudd. I’m not actually the boss. I’m sort of one of his evil minions.”

When the heavy hitting comedians start riffing, Livingston just sits back and lets it happen. “Honestly, I do what I can. I’m not really an improv guy by trade. When you get guys ...
